I'm not sure why the school didn't call. That is one of my issues. Do I cover for him with the school? Say he was sick? I know I need a doctor's slip for that, but I can always plead ignorance. Do I just write him an excuse and deal with it later? Truancy is an actual crime. I have no idea what to do and I'm freaking out. I can handle the punishment thing with him, but what about the school?

Thanks, Stacy

I'd be very, very careful about making things ok with the school for him.

I agree that you should NOT cover for your son with the school. He needs to learn that he does something and he suffers the consequences.

My dd skipped a class last year and I found out, she was a junior in hs, I e-mailed the teacher and told him that I had heard that she was not in class and if that were true she needed to suffer whatever consequences he felt were appropriate for her skipping his class and we would take care of things here at home. He was very nice about it and it just happened that she is one of his favorite students and he is her favorite teacher. She paid the consequences, but the worst thing was the fact that her favorite teacher was disappointed with her actions.

I would also do as Rose suggested in the first post and walk him into the school each day at least for a month.

Good luck with this situation. By the way, how did you find out he skipped and where was he that whole time?
