I was reading the posts and got to wondering.....when do you take your teen to the dr.? My daughter will be turning 15 in a few months and I can't remember the last time she went to the dr.....maybe last year for a quick strep test. Other than that, she is seemingly healthy with regular periods, etc. I'm pretty sure she is still not sexually active (I say pretty sure because I feel that only she knows FOR SURE)- but I feel safe saying she is. She has developed normally and all. So, should she see a dr just so she can get used to going or just wait until she needs to go to a gyn?

I have taken my boys for an annual physical every year.
Same here - always have ds15 have annual exams. This past one was the first time the doc had me leave the room to do some private checks, and to ask him personal questions; I asked him later what it was all about and he said he asked if he drank, did drugs, or had sex, to which ds said no, no, no...I was glad he was still willing to be open and tell me.

I always take my DD and DS to the pediatrician for annual exams. My DD will be 16 next week (!) and she'll go for her annual exam soon afterwards. It seems that our schools require them to have a form signed by the dr. every year for their files, especially for participating in marching band. But I'd take them anyway just to make sure they're ok. Ever since they turned 13, the dr. speaks to them in private, but I get to be in there for part of the time too.
I've always been a minimalist when it comes to doctors but we have had quite a run here as of late and I am leaning towards the annual exam
My 19 yr old has psoriasis. It's pretty bad and he now see a dr regularly and has three different kinds of lotions, shampoos, etc. His best friend just had his gallbladder removed and his college roommate is in the hospital AGAIN with some infection no one can quite pin down. He has had two surgeries to remove the infection and is going home tomorrow on IV antibiotics(he will be staying with his parents which is fine with me as they had him in isolation in the hospital)
I always thought 'young=healthy' but it sure doesnt seem that way right now! Especially with the roomie-I mean, that's the sort of thing I likely would not have taken seriously and the kid almost died because he waited too long to go in. Yikes!
Both my kids have always had an annual exam.
