I am curious what your rules are on your teens and the movies they can watch and music they listen to.

I became pretty easygoing about this after a while. Son is a metal head...I love music, but to this I cannot relate and thankfully it stays in his room and car. Plus, he is too old now for me to dictate his taste in music. Early on I started buying him one Classic Rock CD for Christmas...so he would like what I did at his age. Zeppelin, Moody Blues, Aerosmith, etc. Movies, he likes raunchy comedies.
The girls like I guess what is called Pop? I just don't know...I do know they seem to know all the words to every single song tho. I have them digging other stuff tho, The Beatles, Patsy Cline, B-52's. DD-12 and friends even did a Love Shack parody for the Talent Show. Movies...whatever...most of the R stuff is scary...fine, as long as I don't hear any screaming. If it gives them nightmares, then no more. I myself can't watch scary stuff. Too sensitive. I know it's all fake but it still makes me so uncomfortable.
BUT...if they are going to a movie in a theater, and I am driving...I make sure the other parents know what they are seeing. Gotta look out for my own skin!
Here, the local theater lets the kids in to see just about anything as long as they pay full price. Can't count on a theater clerk to watch your kids.
Music is their own choice. I'm not crazy about the music they listen to, but I'm sure my Mom didn't like mine either. I don't want to hear the swearing and I do comment on the content if I don't like it, which always brings an eye roll of course.
As far as movies, Kelsie is almost 18 so she sees what she wants, but didn't see many things that were "R" until she was 17. Jaryd is 15 and we are still careful what he sees. Usually no "r" rated movies, but sometimes if we have seen them he will be allowed to watch them. Like the Die Hard movies with Bruce Willis. Rated "R" but we watch those and let him watch. The language is horrible, but it isn't something he doesn't hear everyday in school, I'm sure. We are pretty careful about sexual content and such though.
I have always been very relaxed in all these areas as that was how I was raised as well.
I have had some healthy discussions in regards to movies or songs with what I consider to be inappropriate messages. Such as the degradation of women in general or explicit sexual content that is skewed IMO. There are a lot of stupid movies and songs out there whose main message is wild, casual, meaningless sex
I really don't worry too much about music when it comes to Connor.
Surprisingly, Matt--for all of his involvement in choirs and musicals--tends to not listen to much music.
My daughter listens to all kinds of music but loves rap---50 Cent, Akon, Nelly, etc... I don't mind alot of these artists and their music can be catchy, but the clean versions.
