Well, new kid has moved out . . .

NK (new kid) moved out this morning and I definately have mixed feelings. Overall, things had been going well, but I found myself becoming emotionally attached to this boy. So when I sent a field trip permission slip with nk to take to church on Sunday to give to his mom, he brought it back with someone else's name as the emergency contact. I couldn't believe it! This boy was living with me, I was feeding him, sheltering him, (and making him do his homework, lol)!

Kudos to you taking in a child like that!

I did the same thing a few years back. She wanted to stay too, and it got to the point where she would tell me I was not her mom and couldnt tell her what to do. I asked both parents if I could get custody of her,

Well if nk goes away knowing you will always be there for emotional support and advice if you can't be there to provide all the benefits of being his legal guardian, that means alot as well.

You did you best...

Hi there, you tried your very best and sometimes you have to let things go where they may. I'm sure NK knows you will always be there for him. Not in defense of his mom's behaviour, but it could be that she is just mortified...it can't be easy living with your kids in a shelter. I have been down and out before, so I know firsthand how hard it can be to look someone in the eye. Or, she is simply embarrassed and doesn't have what it takes to shake your hand and thank you for everything

Hi Amelia,

It sounds like you did your best and did everything under the sun that was possible.

Hugs to you, Amelia. I have nothing to add to what others have already said. Just wanted to say that I can understand if you're feeling a little sad today. It would be impossible not to get emotionally attached. You did a very kind thing for that boy!

I know it didn't work out like you wanted, but you did an amazing thing for this NK! He will always remember how you supported him in his difficult time.
