Cell phones revisited

Well…..it finally happened….

Remember the thread a few weeks ago about cell phones, and what to do when our air headed, irresponsible teenagers put them through the laundry or drop them in the toilet?

Brand new Samsung Juke, exactly 33 days old goes through the washing machine. A top loading washing machine might give it a fighting chance. Never mind the actual water damage - our front loading washing machine put the thing in pieces.

Welcome to the club, daddioe! And yes, we all make mistakes - please forgive yourself! (BTDT, by the way)

I know what you mean, Daddioe. But you're an adult and our teens aren't. If you put your cell phone through the washing machine, you have to pay to replace it. That is your consequence. I think many of us might have our teens do the same. I don't see what's any different about that! It isn't like you didn't have any negative consequences from your mistake.

You do laundry?

I have had the good fortune to never have had a cell phone incident with my kids. I don't think I'd be inclined to actually ground them if they made a mistake like that. For the girls especially, it would be torture enough not having a

Well, daddioe, you get lots of good marks for doing the laundry! LOL

My supervisor recently ran her DH's cell through the laundry too - no saving that one either.

You are so right, we would be livid at our kids, but probably just chalk it up to a careless mistake for us. The only difference would be that we actually pay for the original item AND the replacement (most of the time). I'm so sorry this happened, very distressing, esp. because it leaves you without communication until you replace it (or am I talking about how upset our kids would be without their phones). I'll have to remember not to wash my phone since I also have a front loader. Apparently very dangerous machines LOL.
