Do you wear same brands as your teen?
| Fri, 01-11-2008 - 10:17am |
Recently I took my daughter/13 to American Eagle to return a Christmas gift and while in there, I fell in love with a hoody that was on a sale rack and happened to be my size, so on impulse I got it. I had never bought anything in there before. Yesterday daughter comes home and tells me one of her friends wore the same thing to school that day. Yikes! I'm dressing like a middle schooler! Am I completely uncool? Now I'm kind of hesitant to be seen in it.

Nope; ds15 wears cargo pants or shorts, and tshirts, boxers and black teeny socks.
I bought a shirt at Aeropostale or American Eagle for myself once, but when I got home and tried it on, I thought "What was I thinking?" It really wasn't "me" at all. I think my DD would be pretty embarrassed if I wore the same brands she does. Yet one time, she mentioned that her social studies teacher (who is my age, if not older) wears Amercian Eagle jeans, and she thought that was cool. I think that it's different when it isn't mom.
I'm sure there are plenty of moms who can wear those brands and get away with it, but I'm not one of them!
No. DD is 19 and I am 55. I would look stupid.
Not usually.
I'd like to wear some younger looking clothes, just for me, but truth is, they don't fit right. I'm full figured, a full 36D and at AE and the like even XL's don't fit properly. I wouldn't wear anything too trendy (I'm 49) or flimsy, but then again, I don't buy anything too trendy for the kids either. They do well at Aeropostale, everything is always on sale...American Eagle sometimes. Hollister and A & F only on occasion and clearance. It's just not worth the money. Pac Sun is crazy too. Very high prices, even in their outlets, but I have to admit they are the most stylish of the popular teen stores.
I like loose fitting comfortable clothing and do well for myself at Old Navy and Gap Body. Macy's is great, too, if you shop the sales.
I like tight clothes as long as they give....not tight jeans. (Can't stand cold air blowing up under my tops.) I have a lot of 95% cotton, 5% spandex, both pants and tops. And lots of 100% cotton tops, or rayon/cotton. Around the house and running errands, I'm always in sweatpants and thermal-knit shirts in winter, tshirts and shorts in summer. I have very few prints--almost all my clothes are solid; not good when it comes to eating spaghetti or other sloppy foods.

Nope, I don't. I have a weight problem, and the 'trendy' stores don't carry plus size clothing.
