OK, after this incident-and the fact that she initially lied and then came clean-where do you stand on your belief of the other stories?

I would be inclined to believe that this has been going on for a long time and the neighbor incident, which is very brazen, was far from the first. Sorry!

Tighter leash. Watch out for sleepovers. Most of us have found out that this is where much of the drinking, etc goes down. Also be aware of her whereabouts after school. Empty houses accumulate these kids; there was an article in our paper by someone with serious alcohol problem who began in 5/6 grade by going to homes of the other kids whose parents were working. He took liquor-topped the bottles with water. He never seemed to run out of houses or get caught! He didnt go into how many of those kids joined him but, obviously, they didnt tell either.

Insist on more time at home. Call the school and see if there is before or after school help available-insist she attend-this will help grades and keep her busy

I like the idea of manual labor for the neighbors to make this up to them and yes, it needs to be outdoors. It is going to take time to rebuild that trust on their part.

Its hard work parenting a teen; some are harder than others
