DD has molors coming in and they hurt like he!!. She has liquid tylenol with codine for the pain but she can not take it because of the taste. Any suggestions on how she can take this without tasting the nasty taste of the codine?

(I thought I posted this last night, but it was lost) What about Anbesol or the stuff you use for teething babies? I've done that once or twice, and it feels a little weird, but it doesn't hurt anymore! My DD also has a hard time with things that have a strong taste - she has to be coughing pretty bad to take cough medicine! Sometimes if she has a glass of juice in one hand, medicine in the other, she can wash down the medicine really fast without gagging.
Hope she's feeling better soon.

Is this a young child or teenager? I ask because DS, 9 and 50lbs, had several options for tylenol plus codeine pills. We looked at several brands cause he's dairy allergic and couldn't take most - some were in the right dose and some could be cut in half to get to the correct dose. Hope she feels better soon.

Can you still get paregoric?
Just a question, but has she tried just taking advil (or a generic Ibiprofin) for the pain? I get toothaches LOTS and the only thing that works for me is ibiprofin type products. And I found I was allergic to the codine anyway.
Also, if she isn't a very good pill swallower (they do make tylonol 3...the codine version..in pill form) you can also get (from the pharmacy...usually the hospital pharmacies or the more local smaller pharmacies) the clear gel caps. They have nothing inside of them. You can cut or crush the pills up (make sure you can do that with that type of med first) and then put it into the inside of the clear gel cap. This prevents her from tasting the pill when she is trying to swallow it. Our 4 yr old (now 11) was diagnosed with Leukemia and forced to take all sorts of meds. But he would throw up EVERY med that was chewable or liqued! EVERY! So one of the nurses brought in these clear gel caps that you can put the pills into..and with some favorite Dad's pop (mountain due) he learned VERY fast how to swallow pills. By 5 yrs old he could take six to 8 at ONE gulp! I can't even do that!
Good luck!

Hopefully ur DD's toothache/gum-ache has resolved by now, but my experience for helping children with taking distasteful medications is the use of a syringe so that ur able to squirt the liquid to the back of the mouth where the taste buds for tasting the flavor is less prominent.
Sounds silly, but holding the nose while swallowing really does mute the taste, thus when we have snotty noses food doesn't have the same appeal. Then have her chase it with a warm fluid (even water). This is a helpful technique when helping kids swallow pills too. Relaxes the throat.
