DS heard from the first of the universities (other than acknowledgments) he applied to.

He is in with $$ offer and a guaranteed place in residence. All he has to do is pass with reasonable marks. Now, this was his fall back university but at least he has an offer! It also means that he has a good chance of getting acceptance to three others. He has till the end of May to decide

The university he got the acceptance from is here. His reaction was... It is only ....
So, yes, he will most likely be living away from home next year. I am hoping for DD`s university. His first choice is one south east from you.. Time will tell.

It will all depend what your daughter wants to study. Queen`s entrance requirements for Arts
and for Science are very high. U of T is also tough to get into. But York, Carleton, U of O, Trent..... are not that bad. If she is on the honor roll, she will be ok.

Congrats to your DS! A little money is always nice.

What does it mean when you say he has a "guaranteed place in residence"? Here in the U.S. I've never heard of a university that could not accommodate the incoming students in the residence halls. Is that what you mean, or does it have some academic meaning?

Am I remembering correctly that he plans to study computer science, or was that someone else's son?

I hope the positive news from the other universities follows shortly.

Your son shouldn't take these things so lightly. The university I work for gets more than 3 times the applicants they can accept. On a program basis this ratio may be higher for more popular programs. True there are places really not growing much but others are increasingly in demand. So good for him!

Oh, yes, it happens...just did, to a friend of my son's...dorms were overbooked...first they double and triple up where they can...this boy found out late and they had difficulty finding him a room in the town...turned out well for him, but costing mom and dad more. Plus he has to hoof it or hitch to the campus.

In this case, it's highly unlikely that iteadrinkers son is NOT guaranteed that spot tho.
