I'm so glad your ds has been exonerated. I bet the girl got detention for lying, on top of the hitting. What an emotional day you've had. In your other post when you mentioned that you don't feel 'important', but the girl's parents have 'connections', I know exactly how you felt. I've been there, too.
In the other thread, I was in the minority, with mjaye...dont' think charges should've been pressed. As long as your DS wasn't injured, things are falling back into place, he can move on more quickly this way. Pressing charges would've just made the tension that much worse for a lot longer.
DS15 in a very safe (affluent; we're not!) area - one of the two top public schools in the STL area. I don't think any schools other than in the city proper have such issues; a high majority of people are in the county (separate from the city).
I'm glad the video supported your son! I hope this all calms down now, and this girl learned her lesson. No matter how sad or mad you are, you can't hit! She's lucky if she just got detention. In DD's school her friends got suspended for 1 day for just threatening another kid (although they were dumb enough to do it in front of the Social Studies office, where teachers witnessed it) and a third friend got expelled (Junior year, very high profile school) because it was not his first incident.
I mostly hope your DS can get this behind him and be allowed to focus on the important work of school.
I knew it too, willow, but how can one prove it?
I don't think we have video cameras, but I'm sure glad you do!
