Hello everyone.
I found this board this morning and it looks like a fun group.
My name is Susan. I live in western Colorado, where I'm a news reporter, poet and a mom to three beautiful daughters, ages 16, 14 and 8.
I find that in a tiny town like mine, the parents of teens tend to not talk to one another a lot. My theory is that the reason for this is either a) you don't say too much about what your child is going through for fear of accidentally starting a rumor about your child or bringing the judgement/ unsolicited advice right down on your own head; or b) because everyone knows your child, you don't say much for fear of either being told something about your child that is going to freak you out or else telling someone something about their child that will freak them out. (Does that make sense?)
As for me and my parenting style... I'm trying to find that effective, fine line between paranoid stalking and unhealthy permissiveness. Haven't figured it out yet and so, therefore, am a bit manic emotionally with the whole experience while trying not to appear to the kids to be emotionally manic.
Currently, the older two daughters have great grades, after school jobs, athletics and crazy-busy social lives. The 16 yo is getting ready to get her driver's license. The 14 yo is getting ready to have her tonsils out (I'm scared witless of the notion of her having surgery). The 8 yo is either convinced that we're all on the set of a Disney-style sitcom in which she is the star, or else that she should *at least* be able to wear makeup to school. ;)
So that's me/ us. Or at least a what glimpse of us I can think of giving without writing an entire volume here.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hello and welcome Susan :)
I totally agree with you on the fine line that parents walk, but truely I don't think it is a small town thing :)

Welcome to the board! I'm EJ, I live on the East Coast, but have spent quite a bit of time in Colorado and still have family there. I have 2 kids, DD who is 16 and DS who is almost 14.
You make "paranoid stalking" sound like a bad thing! LOL. I have to say that my kids would probably describe me that way!
