My name is Ann Coombe. I live in Springfield, IL and I am the mother of 3 boys (ages 23, 20 and 18). I work part time and am very active in my community. I have type II diabetes as well as some other medical "issues". I have approximately 80 pounds to lose. I am afraid that I will not be able to stick to the diet (like so many others) and that even if I do the weight won't come off. I started the diet on December 28th (almost a week ahead of when I planned to) and I have been eating omelets with veggies and canadian bacon for breakfast. I have been having V-8 for lunch and dinner. Tonight I fixed myself a spinach salad with shrimp (sauteed in olive oil), hard boiled egg, broccoli, mushrooms, tomatoes and fat free italian dressing. It was delicious and very filling.

Thanks so much for getting us all together to introduce ourselves. A support system will certainly be a big help in sticking this thing out to the end.

I started phase 1 today with a two-egg spinach omelette, a glass of tomato juice, and a slice of turkey bacon (yuck--it did nothing for me, but they didn't have Canadian bacon at my grocery store yesterday). Last night, I chopped up enough veggies for two lunch salads--cucumber, celery, radishes, peppers. I'll add lettuce and chicken and some Newman's Own dressing. I have string cheese and cottage cheese for snacks. We'll have fish and lots of roasted veggies for dinner. I'm looking forward to dessert: some "fancy" ricotta that I buy at Whole Foods.

That's the good part. The scary part is just thinking about what I CAN'T eat! I know that if I make it through the week without raiding the chocolate chips I hid in the back of the freezer, I'll be okay. I have a lunch date with a friend tomorrow, and I'm going to rehearse beforehand what I can eat. I figure some kind of salad would be the best. But the bread basket will be staring me in the face! It was hard to make my son's lunch--peanut butter sandwich, carrots, pretzels--all things I love to eat.

Relevant things about me: I'm married with a 13-yr-old carbyhydrate-eating son and a husband who's done a great job of losing weight lately on his own eating plan. I work at home (that means close to the fridge, but it's easier to fix good lunches). I could stand to lose 35 pounds, but I need to take it in smaller chunks; I will feel good if I lose 25, great if I lose 30. I maintained an okay weight for quite a few years after losing lots on Weight Watchers, but then my hormones began raging and my metabolism slowed down. Exercise: I belong to a gym and was religious about going for about 9 months (still ate a lot, though), but haven't been regularly since September. Now I'm starting again.

Good luck, everyone.

* So tell us about yourself...

My name is megan, I live in Ohio.

* What your worries/concerns are?

Going on a major carb binge. I am struggling with cravings.

* Do you have any questions?

Also, I am feeling a bit nauseous and tired. Is this normal? How long does it last?

* What have you been eating so far (phase I is the hardest phase, but lasts only 2 weeks so hang in there). So far, I have had a form of eggs at breakfast but I think I like the suggestion of having leftovers. not a big egg eater... salads with grilled chicken for lunch and chicken/lean pork/lean beef dinner.

* Are you getting your veggies in (1/2 cup with breakfast, TWO cups at lunch and dinners)?

some, but not enough. I need to make this a priority. I did try the mashed "potatoes" using cauliflower last night. not bad - I need to work on getting the texture smoother.

* Drinking lots of water? (so important to try to flush out the bad stuff you are detouring)? I drink lots of water already, so not a problem.

* Anyone exercising (we have daily threads down below to post your accomplishments - even 10 min of moving deserves applause!)? need to get moving! the dreary cold weather isn't motivating.

Hi Susan et al !

I'm just starting SBD today, and so far so good. I am 33, mom of two, with about like 90 lbs. I would gladly trade. I'm plagued by an overly positive self image that makes me think I look hot even when I clearly don't. It beats hating myself, I suppose.

I'm a former Atkins follower (fell off that wagon about 4 months ago), and I still believe almost every word he said, but SBD sounds like a saner lifetime approach. I mean, beans are good for you... you should eat them. So coming from that background, SBD sounds like the best of both worlds. I'm still blown away by the carb counts on even the most benign multigrain steel-cut items, but I'm going to trust and go with it (after Phase 1, that is).

This morning i had an omelet with no veggies, but will fix that at lunch with a nice salad. Need to drink a bunch of water, but this is my first post-holiday visit to the office too, and I feel pressed.

I have been stepping up the exercise in the last 3 weeks prior to starting SBD, I'm jog/walking 2 miles every other day currently, and doing a bunch of abs and such. It feels good to do it, even in my current (large) state.

I'd love to find a few buddies that are gung-ho on SBD to chat with on Yahoo Messenger, keep each other posted on progress, and shriven of our errors on the program. I'm in Virginia, if that matters. I'd love to hear from you (yes, YOU!).

Regards, Angela

Hi everyone!! I have posted several times already, but just started my SBD today!!! Yeah!!

I am a 32 yr old twice divorced mom of two boys 13 & 9 - oldest lives with his dad. Live with my df and ds and a kitty and a new hamster.

I work full-time as an administrative assistant for a small medical insurance broker in FLORIDA - so do NOT move around too much during the day!!!

I am loving this "diet" so - far. Seems fairly simple compared to other, and being hypoglacemic (?) - I needed something that I could grap a snack if needed.

Today was first day - but i have already had some almonds, some water, chicken breast, green beans. Have some lf lunch meat roll-ups for later (actually pretty soon, lol)

I have not started my exercise routine. Ideas on this would be great. We live in an very nice apartment complex, however, idont get home from work and picking up ds until after dark, df isnt home until after 7pm, and i dont want to go to the fitness room alone (i am a big time wimp) or walk after dark alone -PLUS ds has school and homework etc. What to do??????? I need to get off my rump more..... I am also hypothyroid so i have to put in extra effort...(actually have NO thyroid but on hormones)

I would love to offer any advice or support - new to this sbd but so ready for it!!!!

Thanks

ok, here goes!

i'm starting tomorrow, and have been reading phase I posts all day long to see what "real" people have to say about it. i'm pumped, but a little scared about how most people seem to be fatiguey/headachey by the third day. i'm 24, with no kids (can someone please tell me what the letters "dh", "ds" and all others like that mean? i don't have much forum experience!), and i want to lose around 15 pounds. mainly, i'm looking for a lifestyle change, i'm sick of eating crap food (i got into the rut in college and just never took the time to find out about nutrition). i'm a little worried about taking the time in the am to make breakfast, but i've read some good things on here about quick and easy recipes. i do have one question, tho: for mayo, guac, hummus, etc, are we only allowed one tbsp per day in phase I? i like to eat guac/hummus and veggies, but 1 tbsp isn't my idea of a lot. i look forward to reading more about everyone on here...and i'll check in when i have actually started (going shopping tonight!). thanks!

I'm a 32 year old mother and wife in Maryville, Tennessee. I am just starting SBD today. I had an egg for breakfast and had a snack of pecans and cheese before my chicken and salad at lunch.

I have about 30 pounds to lose. I would appreciate some help in getting motivated to exercise and also like someone else said some ideas for breakfast that don't include gormet meal cooking. I'm lucky to get out the door with my lunch let alone trying to fix breakfast.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to getting to know you all better. :-)

Hi, Susan, and all Phase One-ers!

I started SBD today. Have the book and have been following it to a tee. Even went on a "special" grocery store run yesterday to "get ready".

I am 48, with DH, SS(18) and DS(8). I am a SAHM, so , luckily, have the time to "prepare" some of the more complicated meals. Some of the things seem a little "busy" to me, especially those roasted vegetable or eggplant thingies.

I have not been exercising, but signed up for a twice a week Dance Aerobics class and a skating class. I started Dance Aerobics today and it's a lot of fun.
