* So tell us about yourself... I'm 32 (TODAY) and a mother of one three year old boy. I'm married and actually my husband is starting the SBD phase 1. I am starting at phase 2 because I'm not wanting to loosemore than a few pounds but more so to support my dh. ;-)

* What your worries/concerns are? Mainly for dh is keeping off the sodas (regular ones that is) and for me it's my incredible love of dumplings (nothing but butter and white flour - BAD). :-) Ultimately if my dh starts liking htis way of eating he will be more in line with how I was trying to eat anyway which will help me to stick with healthy eating.

* Do you have any questions? not yet but we;re just starting.

* What have you been eating so far (phase I is the hardest phase, but lasts only 2 weeks so hang in there). WEll yesterday was the first day we ate this way. I'm don't remember dh's food for the day at work but it was in line. For a phase one dinner I made pork chops on the George Foreman Grill with just a little olive oil and pepper, sauteed mushrooms in some olive oil and asparagus with a tiny bit of parmesan cheese on it. It was yummy but dh was questioning the portion size. I told him if he was still hungry I could make salad, or he could snack on some nuts or lowfat cheese. it was fine. I'm not in tune to making food without rice and such so it was less than I usually serve at dinner BUT it was actually lookin gmore appropriate than the gargantuan meals I've served in the past.

* Are you getting your veggies in (1/2 cup with breakfast, TWO cups at lunch and dinners)?

Dinner had two cups yesterday. I also had a salmon salad with mixed greens, ect. this morning I'm trying the omlette with mushrooms and asparagus since I didn't use them all last night. I'm going to have a spinach salad with mushrooms, cucumber and some lean turkey breast and lowfat cheese with olive oil vinagrette. Dinner is on our own. I have no idea yet.

* Drinking lots of water? (so important to try to flush out the bad stuff you are detouring)? Yes, always have. DH is too since he's not drinking soda's he's been drinking water instead. Yay for him!!!!

* Anyone exercising (we have daily threads down below to post your accomplishments - even 10 min of moving deserves applause!)? I already work out 3 - 5 times a week doing aerobics classes, weight training and yoga (used to do pilates but the gym cancelled the class boo hoo). DH needs to start exercising but slow changes are easier. He is a big football fan so right now he's been watching lots of games (he uses the not much time with the family excuse for not exercising) so as soon as the superbowl is over I'm gonna propose he use some of that new found time to go to the gym. :-) He just needs to get in a schedule.

:-) Diane

Hi! I too decided to wait to Jan 5th to begin the South Beach Diet. However, it seems I have learned more today from reading posts than I learned in the book. Where exactly does it say how many veggies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the book? I must have missed it. I am 53 years old and gained a huge amount of weight while on sterioids for Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was a size 10 in 1996, a size 14 in 2000 and now a size 20-22. I am off steriods and ready to tackle this weight!

Hi, my name is Julie, I live in MN, just began SBD last Friday as soon as I picked up the book. Then it was off to the grocery story. Phase 1 is going fine. I had been "off" sugar since November so I went through the withdrawl then. Big withdrawl! I am a sugar addict. I am a runner; have a snowshoe marathon in Duluth this Saturday but still struggle with my weight. I am on my way to losing that last 15. Have lost 3 so far. Yeah! I'm so glad I have found you all-

* So tell us about yourself...

My name is Robyn and live in Davenport Iowa. I am married with 1 child, our white Labrador Lexy!!!

* What your worries/concerns are?

My major concern is sticking to this way of eating and not getting sick of having the same foods. I really want to change my habits but I am a carb and sugar addict. My major worry is falling off the wagon. I am on day 2 with no cravings so far so that's a good sign.

* Do you have any questions?

This message board helps me tremendously!!! One question though, is diet Pepsi or coke ok in Phase I.

* What have you been eating so far (phase I is the hardest phase, but lasts only 2 weeks so hang in there). So far, I have had a form of eggs at breakfast but am REALLy scared that I'll be getting sick of them soon. I had a spinach salad yesterday for lunch and grilled chicken breast with broccoli and cauliflower for dinner with sugar free Jell-O for dessert. Today I am having low fat cottage cheese and 2 turkey roll ups for lunch. Not sure yet on dinner.

* Are you getting your veggies in (1/2 cup with breakfast, TWO cups at lunch and dinners)?

I did a great job yesterday but am struggling today. I had 2 quiches for breakfast today but hate onions and peppers so just added low-fat cheese and mushrooms.

* Drinking lots of water? (so important to try to flush out the bad stuff you are detouring)? I try to have two 33 ounce glasses of water a day at work. I try to finish them but some days it's difficult. I usually have a diet Pepsi at night which I think is ok.

* Anyone exercising (we have daily threads down below to post your accomplishments - even 10 min of moving deserves applause!)? I am usually pretty dedicated to running and lifting 5-6 days a week. It's been extremely cold the past couple of days and haven't been too motivated to leave the house!!

I'm Terri. I'm 29 years old, have been married for 4 years, and have an 11 month old son. I'm "officially" starting SBD on Monday, only because it's easiest for me to start with a concrete start date, AND I have a party to go to on Saturday, and I don't want to kill it so soon.

My biggest worries are that I'll fall off the wagon before the 1st two weeks are up - I'm a total carb addict, and I'm not sure how I'll give them up - even for just 2 weeks. But I'm determined to try. I'm also not a huge veggie fan, but I'm getting better. :)

Anyway - I'm hoping that I'll be able to stick to this and lose the 30 - 40 lbs I want to lose. I'm tired of hating the way I look, and I want to be healthier, so I'm around to see my son grow up...

Looking forward to losing with all of you! :)

Hi Terri (and everyone else of course)

I'm starting this Monday (1/12) too! Also very scared to fall of the wagon b/c i get bored with eating the same thing very quickly. I'm also not a huge veggie fan - I like some (tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, mushrooms), but I'm not a big fan of things like asparagus and string beans. But I'm motivated!

I'm 24, from NJ/NY area, newly engaged (yay for us!) and live with my fiance and two wonderful kittens. He doesn't need to lose any weight, but I think I'm going to have to ban some carbs/sweets in the house, at least for the first few weeks. Thankfully some sweets he likes, I can't stand, so maybe he can have those... Dinner will be hard though, b/c we always have potatoes or rice or pasta. I'm willing to give it a try. I have about 25 lbs to lose.

Going shopping tonight or some time this weekend. Need to make a list.

I look forward to talking to all of you and to supporting each other! :)
