SO Upset!

I'm pretty disappointed on this diet so far. In the beginning I was all excited but when I'm not losing any weight I'm really mad. I think I've only lost about 2 pounds. I'm thinking about going on phase two and actually enjoy life if I'm just going to lose a pound a week or something like that?

Don't tell me that. How long have you been on it? Any cheats? Have you ONLY eaten what is on the list??? I am following this diet pretty closely and will be equally as mad if I only lose 2 lbs on phase 1.

You have to look at the big picture here.

I agree with Mel, you lost didn't you. I lose 2 lbs. the first week and than 2 lbs. the next on Phase 1,by the time I reached Phase 2 I lost a total of 6 pounds. Did you lose inches from the stomach or hips or tights??????? That other way of telling the the South Beach is working. BE PATIENT the weight didn't come on you over night,so its going to take time to lose it.Dr. A says that the less you have to loss the less you'll lose on this program. Give the beach a chance to work. Hugs Maryann

You have to remember that this isn't a quick fix diet, this is a healthy lifestyle change. I didn't lose any weight on phase one, but I did reach my goal weight within 8 weeks. When you do what right for your body, your body will naturally take itself to it's healthy weight. We are all different, and won't have the same results. Remember the SBD is probably the best way you can eat, you are doing wonders for your health.

Peacelily~

I can relate...I've only lost 1 pound so far and phase 1 should be ending tomorrow. I can tell I no longer have the cravings, but that is it...no changes in inches or weight. I think I am going to go on to a modified phase 1/2 so I don't get burnt out with the limited foods I eat in phase 1. Hopefully, my body will start changing soon and I am one of those people that it takes a while on. I've seen it work...my mom lost 20 pounds in just over 2 months. Good luck!!! And if you want to vent I'll listen...I know it can be frustrating.

Thank you all for support and getting me to stick with it. I only have about a week left (4-5 days) on phase 1. I have been eating the right foods and the ones only allowed. Haven't had ANY bread in I don't know how long! I will admit that I did cheat a little this weekend. My bf bought me a beautiful bottle of merlot so I had to have a glass. (rude if I didn't have one with him) I drank it slowly and with tons of water....

I'm just upset that only lost two. Well since you all are telling me to keep going and I'm not the only one that hasn't lost much on phase 1 I will keep at it! I do feel better about myself and what I've been eating. That is a huge plus!

One small comment or question. You say that the more you have to lose the more comes off well I do have a lot to lose.... about 50 lbs. Does this all get easier?

Again thank you all for your support. I have been repeating to myself all day... "I didn't gain it all in a week, I'm not going to lose it all in a week."

I was in the same place--wanted to quit because I hadn't lost anything in week 1. I posted about this under "successes." But remember that it's a way of eating that you adopt one small step at a time. I am trying to measure success by something else in addition to weight: how well I am able to change my eating habits. For example, in the past few days I have eaten at a Mexican restaurant without having a single chip, a margarita, or a beer (I had taco salad with nothing but the chicken, lettuce, and tomato--it wasn't great, but I survived). I have watched my teenager eat a milkshake and a chili dog while I sipped on a diet soda. So think of your accomplishments, and keep trying! You can do it.

Hi,

I have read all these emails under your posting and I really can relate to all of them. I do agree that you need to hang in there and keep your chin up. It is really hard and beleive me I am going through the same frustrations as you.

I am 5'4" and weigh 172 pounds. I use to weigh 130 pounds most of my life. All of a sudden in three years (while dieting and exercising) gained 40 pounds! Too many carbs-rice, pasta, all low fat... caught up with me.

I have tried pretty much all of the diets and nothing has worked. I hope that this is the one for me.

It took three years to put it on, I figure it will take three years to get it off...

I have been on the SBD for 4 days now, and the scale did budge 2 pounds down... but don't know if that is weight or water! I told myself I can do this... it is only two weeks. If I loose only one pound well so be it, it is one pound I did NOT gain. I remind myself of how much that really is when I go to the super market. I pick up a pound of butter and look at it. I lost that much weight. It really helps to visualize two blocks of butter off your body! Try that when you are feeling sad about a pound or two here and there. It really reminds you to hang in there.

Like one person wrote "nothing worth having is easy to get".

I take it one day at a time and one pound at a time...

Deep down you sound determined and that will only lead you to success. You will get upset sometimes, that is normal for all of us... just ask for the lift when you need it.

This is my first time on Ivillage and hope I added some encouragement... I kind of encouraged myself too! :)

Wish you luck! Think thin.

Thank you so much for that butter analogy.
