I just read the great success of "Just Completed Week One" and was thrilled to hear the good news. It gives me hope but I've got to say I think I even gained a pound this week and it is making it hard to continue. I am only hoping that the second week will kick in.

Has anyone else experienced that in Phase 1, week one?

Hi there,

It sounds like the types of food your are eating are perfect. But, since you are working out everyday, perhaps you aren't consuming enough calories and your body is doing the "starvation mode" thing. Try bumping up your food intake a little bit. Maybe add nuts to your diet.

Just my humble 2 cents.

It sounds to me like you are the same body type as me, which means that you may lose slowly. I have several hypotheses as to why, after almost three months on SBD, I have not lost a ton of weight (esp. at the beginning, as promised-- I lost three pounds in the first three days and then stalled for about a month). I have lost, though, overall, just slowly. People like you and me who don't have a ton of "belly fat" to lose or who are not obese will just have to be more patient. You will be rewarded, believe me, esp. b/c the slower you lose weight, the more likely you are to keep it off. So in the long run you and I will maintain better than most people who lose a lot really fast.

I know it's disappointing b/c I had hoped to lose around 10 lbs. in the first two weeks, and after three months I haven't hit that. I also have hardly exercised, but I am a first-year law student, so who has time?

I am 5'7", 160 pound (started at 167), and my measurements at the beginning of December (you shouldn't measure too often) were 36-28-42. I wore a size 12 comfortably when I started just before Halloween, but now I wear a comfortable size 10.

Anyway, I posted a reply to someone's post ("I haven't lost anything" in Chit-Chat) which is located at:

http://messageboards.ivillage.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=iv-fbsouthbeach&msg=3301.9&ctx=0

I hope that provides some answers and hope to you.

Best of luck!

I'm going to share how it's been working for me in case you have problems. I only had 15 pounds to lose. After 12 days in P1, I had only lost 4 lbs (water weight probably), so I went on to P2. I thought I would lose a lot because I just have belly fat and a thick waist. Well, I eat a good amount of food, and probably too many nuts but it beats a cookie. I have lost a pound a week and that includes at least 2 glasses of wine a week. I nibble on chocolate when I'm crazy for sugar and am sure that the Baileys in my coffee has NO sugar (right!). Anyway, what I'm saying is go ahead and eat a full menu to combat the starvation mode you might be in, maybe count on just a pound a week, and maybe just maybe cut P1 short if Nothing is happening and you are getting discouraged. Be patient, and follow the good advice of this board. 130/118/115

Thanks for your help here. It is really appreciated.

I am kind of relieved to know there are others who are having the same trouble, and yes, I don't have "belly fat"... I have "butt fat". Dr. A doesn't discuss that...Anyhow, I will stick with it and lets hope that by march I will show some difference. I thought that working out would speed the process, but as one person wrote, I may be not eating enough. To tell the truth, this is more food than I am use too, I don't know if I could possibly eat anymore.

Congrats on reducing a whole size! That is great news and encouraging to me. I guess this is where the test of patience comes in.

Good luck with Law School. I am sure you get enough activity with that. I use to when I went to school. Sometimes I think that since I have been in the working world this is what happens when you have a job that you sit for 9 hours a day.

I will hang in there, thanks to your advice and the others that have posted. I will just try to keep telling myself that I will be lighter soon.

Thanks and have a great day.

Well, you just made my day...

I think I will follow your advice about moving on to p2 and throwing in a margaritta or glass of wine here and there and see what happens! Maybe I won't get really thin really fast, but I will enjoy getting there.

I will try to eat a little more (but good stuff) and see if I can't get this metab movin.

thanks for your help.

Hello Everyone,

Confused at times but feeling much better.

I am so happy to finally find a place to communicate and get support while on the SBD diet. I started SBD on January 11th and I have not lost one pound, but I have lost inches for example bust was 40 1/2, as of Saturday it was 35 1/2. I walked the treadmill about 50 to 60 minutes each day (started that on Jan 1st) this was my New Years resolution to be a healthier person. My diet everyday is very typical to yours. However, the more information I read, the more I realized I wasn't eating enough. I have increased my amount of food, especially with my vegetables. For instance, at dinner I may have, two cooked vegetables and a salad, meat portions are always small.

My husband who is also on the diet with me has lost 10 pounds. I want to lose weight, but more than anything I want to be healthier!!!

My goal is to lose 30 pounds.

I stopped weighing everyday because it was killing my spirit and now I measure once a week.

The best part about this diet is that I want to learn to eat healthier and take better care of my body. so I try not to focus on my weight, but I can tell you in my second week, I have felt great, I have a lot of energy and I sleep well!!!

More Power to SBD

Ok, this is what I see and I DON'T recommend the margarita, it's full of so much sugar.

Wow, it's great to hear that someone had the same response to the first week as I did. I lost a total of 2.5 lbs in two weeks. Yuk All that hard work for nothing, it seems like. Since you're going to keep trying it, so will I. I fell off the wagon all weekend, but tomorrow I'm back on. Good Luck.

I had the same experience Week 1. I only lost 2 pounds. I do feel better, though. Keep it up and remember that there are others out there who are plugging along with you. The ricotta is good if you add Splenda, almond extract, cocoa powder and chopped almonds on top. Good luck and keep up the good work.

Hi,

I know what you mean. You try and try and nothing. Then someone like a "husband" moves in on the diet and drops weight like crazy. Hang in there. I am.

I too am glad to have others to chat with about this. Sometimes you feel so alone when you are on a special way of eating and others don't understand. It feel good to know there are tons (pardon the expression) of others out there.

I started the same weekend as you. I am sorry I haven't gotten to you sooner but I have a satelight connection and when it snows, it causes interference. It has been snowing here in Syracuse NY for days. I have snow banks on the side of the driveway over 5Ft. I try to think of all the exercise I am getting shoveling but it is not helping. I want to move to Philadelphia area, and can't find a job fast enough. My husband today said "lock the doors and pack a bag - we're movin' today!"

Anyway, I read this a few days ago, and now I am getting back to you. I have too increased my food and to tell you the truth it has been a few days and I have noticed a difference. I lost two. I don't know if it was the shoveling added to the work out, or the increase of food or both, but eating more seemed to help.

I have to say for another person on here (Mel) I didn't do the margaritta. I know she would be happy to hear that. I was kidding. I have added an apple to my second week, I know I should be waiting for that, but it doesn't seem to hurt, it helps I think.

I just can't do the ricotta. Can you? I never liked canolis (sp?) either. I know they are made with that too. To be honest, the more sweet I have the more I want. I have an apple with a little peanut butter.

I agree... I want to be healthier. I told my husband by the time I turned 35 I would be down to my old size. I want to loose 30 too, but I could stand to loose 40. If I lost 30 I would be 140 and wear my old size 8 jeans (which by the way are burning a hole in my dresser).

Well thank you for replying with your help. I get a lot of encouragement here. I saved your name so I can visit you again.

Good luck to you & your hubby. Sounds like you are both on your way to success. He may have lost alot in the begining, but lets say you will loose it all at the end!

Have a great day... I think I have to go shovel the drive again.

Chris.
