Started today - am I doing it right?

I started the diet today, and thought I was going to follow the daily menus in the book. I don't like a lot of that stuff, though, and while I understand it's perfectly all right to create my own meals, I don't think I know how!

Maybe it's because I've been doing other diets up until now, but without firm guidelines how do I know if it's okay?

For example, are nuts acceptable in phase 1? I would rather have nuts than string cheese, but none of the Phase 1 snacks in the book contain nuts.

Am I correct that we're not counting carbs per se, just the quality of the carbs? Is Phase 1 supposed to be completely carbless? Because my 2 tablespoons of Right Done Light salad dressing contains carbs!

I am sooooo totally confused. If I drop out of this, it won't be because of being hungry (because I'm not!), but because I don't know what to eat!

Thank you so much Cathy - you have reassured me that I can do it! I admit that I just flew through the book because I was in such a hurry to get started, and I missed some important things (like the list of Foods to Enjoy!).

You mentioned hydrogenated oils - how do I know if the oils contained in foods are hydrogenated or not? The label lists saturated and unsaturated.

nuts and string cheese can get boring. search this board and somewhere there is a phase 1 snack list with recipes. cottage cheese is good, there are turkey roll-ups, and a tomato and mozzarella salad.

The words "Hydrogenated oil" will be listed in the ingredients.
