Hi all!

Today is day 2 for me, and I have the shakes really bad. I can't even hold my baby son because of it...is this normal?

Hi there...

I'm not a doctor, or an SBD expert, but I experienced a similar thing on about day 7. I don't know if it's normal...in addition to the shakes, I was also extremely weak and kept feeling faint. Stay hydrated and keep eating - even if you feel you can't - a piece of cheese, some nuts, hummus. I felt better after I snacked a bit with "allowed" snacks and water. I also had a diet soda, even though I normally don't drink it. (I was hoping my brain would be tricked into thinking it was having sugar!!) When I felt a little better, I ate a meal and felt normal by the end of the night. The next day, I was feeling that shaky weakness again, so I ate small things (even though I was a little nauseous) until I felt I could eat a bigger meal. I also remembered to eat a few pistachios before going to bed that night. I didn't have anymore problems after that.

There is another post somewhere in the Chit Chat department from yesterday or the day before about sodium, too. Check that out. Call your doctor if you feel it's not normal for you. I can't imagine that "shakes so bad you can't hold your baby" can be good for you.

Hope you feel better!!

I gotta tell you...i'm no doctor, but that doesnt seem right. Pre south beach when i had lots of sugar highs and lows, my hands used to shake when my blood sugar got low. but nothing remotely as debilitating as you described. Slight weirdness as your body gets adjusted is one thing. Shaking so badly you cant hold a baby is quite another. I'm thinking that you should go eat something and maybe call a doctor for a more professional opinion.

Good luck

Are you drinking lots of diet soda, tea, or coffee with caffeine? Maybe a mix of some caffeine and decaf drinks might help. Don't go to decaf cold turkey - a "rebound" headache could follow.

Not being nosey, but are you nursing? Maybe you're not getting enough nutrients to support your needs and the baby's. SBD recommends that nursing moms follow Phase II - careful carb consumption - rather than Phase I detox.

Hope you feel better soon. I'd definitely check with the dr if this continues - it seems extreme. You gotta hug your little one!

Hugs,

Donna
