Phase 2: Scared To Add Carbs!

Hi everyone. I am on Phase 2 (since Tuesday) and I am totally scared to add the good carbs back into my diet. I am worried that as a result I am eating more than I was on Phase 1 (for example, I've been having 2 snacks after dinner: strawberries & peanut butter and then the ricotta dessert). Is anyone else scared to add the carbs and if so, what are you doing? I am really worried that I'm screwing up my metabolism! Thanks in advance for any advice you can give!

Most likely your metabolism will start getting screwed up if you do not add the carbs. Go slowly. Add something new every day or every few days. Start out with a piece of fruit, maybe an apple (a really good snack food!) or some canteloupe or such. Then when you are ready add some oatmeal maybe or a slice of wheat bread. A slice of bread or a bowl of oatmeal will not impede your progress, as long as you are not eating bread and oatmeal all day long!

I was the same way too, in fact I have been on the beach since August and I have not added back bread, pasta or rice, which I realize is probably not the norm. However, I am hypothryroid and seem to be really carb sensitive. I do have oatmeal occasionally, but that gives me cravings. (I do have the WASA crackers w/ laughing cow cheese, apples raspberries etc).

When I started Phase 2 I just added a new carb which I thought was less likely to cause cravings back every 4 or 5 days or so. That is how I found out oatmeal (even w/ p-butter) affects me. So you might just want to go slowly until you can tell how the allowed carbs affect you.

Good Luck,

I was the same way. I started on ph2 last week and have found a few "trigger" foods that I try to avoid. One being brown rice which I absolutely love (especially as coconut rice - yummy!!) I will eat it sometimes and just try to ignore the cravings I get later on. I did find that I could eat whole grain bread. I either have it at breakfast with my turkey bacon or for lunch with tuna, just one slice, cut up into squares like crackers. I posted just last week about my fear of ph2 and the cravings I was having. Now, I just try to add one new carb every few days to see if it triggers my cravings.

I also noticed that I didn't lose any inches the first week in ph2 which was very disappointing. However, I'm in this for the long haul and realize that I may plateau sometimes. My scale broke so I have no idea if I lost any weight but that's not as important as those inches melting off!

Anyway, just wanted you to know that you are not alone in your fear of phase 2. I'm taking it day by day, trying to look at the big picture and reminding myself how good I feel on this diet. (well, the exercise, I think, is what makes me feel good but it's all connected). Ok, I'm off now. Take care. Julie

Thanks to everyone for their advice and support. I'm going to just take it one day at a time, adding things slowly!
