Help...I'm not losing!

Hi there,

I'm in the middle of third week of PH1, and I'm not losing (I have about 20-25 to lose). This is what I ate yesterday:

B--

2 eggs poached over spinach

6 oz V8

Sn--

couple of slices of Sara Lee turkey breast

L--

tuna over lettuce

2 sliced tomatoes grilled with 2 slices of reduced fat cheese

jello

Sn--

15 almonds

D--

Grilled chicken breast

zucchini and mushrooms sauteed in olive oil

Sn--

Ricotta

This is pretty much it. Maybe 1 or 2 more slices of turkey breast here and there. I'm not exercising (no time!). But shouldn't I lose something?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

ibchi, I am in the same boat. 2 wks in Ph1 and I've lost maybe 2lbs. I would like to lose 20lbs. Although I am not necessarily in a big hurry...I think it's better to lose slowly...I think if I'm losing THIS slowly, I won't lose any in Ph2!! ca205 (hope that's right, can't see the member name at the moment) pointed out that my yogurt selection might be impeding my progress. I was eating Dannon Lite n Fit nonfat, but it had 12g of sugar! Just stocked up on the low carb yogurt so I'm going to do a 3rd week of Ph1 with that and see if it helps. I think maybe I'm eating too much. Are the foods on the approved list really limitless (unless otherwise noted)? Following the menu plans is just not enough food for me. My typical day is:

1 hardboiled egg

1 container of the above yogurt

1 string cheese

3 turkey rollups (for lunch) with lettuce and mustard

30 pistachios

1 string cheese

1 container of the above yogurt

dinner with approved meat and steamed veggies

ricotta cream from SBD book

Sometimes I also have a soup or something. I have one of those scales with the fat monitor and I have definitely not lost any fat. My clothes aren't any loser. So many people seem to be doing so well on this diet...I don't know what gives! I like eating this way...Ph1 has been pretty easy for me...so I'll stick to it for awhile. But I must say that I am starting to get depressed!

Sorry I can't offer advice. But I feel your pain! ;)

Hi caldrmn,

I totally feel your pain. I don't know where to go at this point. My portions are normal size...if anything below normal. Should I be watching my olive oil intake? It's just so frustrating b/c so many people lose weight on this diet very easily, and I don't. I frankly don't see too many changes, other than the fact that I'm less obsessed with food. Do you think if we stick to it, the weight will come off?

Hi ibchi, Don't get upset over not losing the weight on Phase 1. You might of lost inches instead. Try phase 1 for one more week and if you didn't lose,go to Phase 2,maybe your body needs the good carbs. But by all means start slowly, try an apple and than multi-grain bread .I use Arnolds Oat Bran, which has 5 fibers,2.5 total fats and 30 carbs. If you gain STOP the carbs that your using and try something new. Sending (((( good weight loss vibes))))) out your way Hugs Maryann

I know when I'm not losing that if I drink lots of water (the 8 cups a day) it sometimes helps. I also think the body sometimes just holds onto the weight at different times and you have to just wait for a "whoosh". Think of the weight dropping on the scale as steps down rather than down a ramp. You sometimes never know which day will be the step down.

I agree that weight on the scale may not be an accurate measure of progress. It would be much better to measure inches or see how your clothes fit. If there is no improvement there either, you may want to have your thyroid checked. But most of all I would recommend getting this book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0767905644/qid=1075058886//ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl14/104-6354894-2039149?v=glance&s=books&n=507846

Metabolic Typing implies that we all have different metabolic types and those are protein, carbohydrate, and mixed. There is a reason that SBD, or Atkins, or Weight Watchers, etc. doesn't work for everybody. It's important to figure out what 'your' indivicual needs are for 'your' body. This is something I recently learned myself and it makes so much sense. People tend to give me a hard time for eating a lot of protein and not eating flour of any kind and even very little fruit. Yet when I do that, and eat lots of healthy oils like coconut oil, flax seed oil, olive oil, etc. I feel great and my body is in great shape. This book is $15 in book stores and well worth reading. Even if you just read the intro do get the main idea, and then do the self-test to figure out what type you are, it will be worth the investment. Or get it in the library and then return it when you are done.

Don't get me wrong, I am not against SBD AT ALL. It works for many, many people, but it doesn't work for others. If you go to the Atkins board you will see the same thing. Most posters there are incredibly happy and seeing great results and then you have the occasional person who is loosing nothing or gaining.

I hope this helps.

I want to believe we'll lose, but I don't know. I've tried so many diets and they just don't work for me. I did lose 8lbs on WW then gained it back. I think WW is a good program and you learn how to make some good choices and substitutions, but I was starving myself! And I hated counting cals, fat, fiber, pts. I've also done the see the nutritionist weekly and workout like crazy routine. I lost about 10lbs doing that and gained it back, but I hit a plateau and even they were stumped. I think SBD is a good way of eating in general and it seems pretty easy for me to follow, so I'm going to continue on it as long as I can. I figure at least I won't gain any more weight if I stick with it (I hope!). My two best friends are doing it too...of course they're losing weight like crazy (they have alot more to lose). I will say that I think some of my cravings have diminished which, I didn't think was possible! I bought sugar-free Hersheys dark choco mini bars for work because eating candy at work was what porked me up in the first place. They taste just like regular I think! But I didn't eat a single one all last week! They were right on my desk and it didn't even occur to me to want one! The only thing I have wanted was alcohol. But I've done even better resisting that than I thought I could. I did cheat last night and had two low carbaritas at Don Pablos. Anyway, stick with it ibchi. I'll be curious to see how you're doing ;)

Hey caldrmn,

We're alike in so many ways!!! I too did WW. Lost 17 pounds, gained 10 back, counting everything was driving me nuts. I also did the nutritionist thing, the 1200 cal a day plus heavy duty exercise thing. I think I've spend the past 9 years on one diet or another. I like SBD. I'm going to stick with it for now, and keep my fingers crossed. Good luck to you!!!

Hi there,

I woke up this morning totally depressed because I have seen zero, I mean, ZERO change in my weight or size. I don't have a lot to lose - 15 lbs, but I'd be happy with 10 - and despite following the diet and exercising daily, I've got nuthin'.

Like you, my cravings are gone, and I'm satisfied with this menu, but long for results. Even a pound or two would rev the engine! I'm on week 2 of Phase I and hoping that I'm one of those "fat hoarders" who drops a bunch the 2nd week.

Anyway, I wanted to say that I feel better, not that other's aren't feeling great success, but that I'm not the only one who doesn't immediately have a bikini body upon starting this lifestyle. It's just good to know I'm not alone in the experience.

Good luck to all of you, I'm sure we'll see some successes soon!

You all are not alone. I too find it very difficult to lose weight on this diet. But it is still one of the healtiest diets around. And when I went off before Christmas I gained 15 pounds. So far I've lost 2.5 pounds since the beginning of the year. I pretty much follow the diet, doing a good 2 weeks of Phase 1.

I found that I could lose weight if I had 2 quiche cups for breakfast and 2 for lunch and then just chicken and veggies for dinner and a dessert of ricotta cheese and lime. I use only substitute eggs and non-fat cottage cheese in the quiche cups. I make some of the quiche cups hot and spicy with hot sauce.

I exercise everyday. 30 minutes on the treadmill daily. Still does not stop me from gaining if I don't watch everything that I put in my mouth.

I cut out nuts, olive oil, margarine, real eggs. I only eat the lowest saturated fat foods that I can find.

At this point, I have just 12.5 pounds to lose. I think that has a lot to do with it. When I had 80 pounds to lose, the weight could come off with a lot less effort.

There really is a lot of food that you can eat on this diet. I suggest eating only the lowest calorie foods allowed and see if that doesn't help a little. Feel free to eat LOTS of veggies. They can keep you full and from starving.

Irene

P.S. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has a hard time losing even on this amazing(?) diet.
