Re-starting Phase 1 & need motivation

I'm 43 years old and a personal trainer. I've never really had to lose weight, just watched it all the time. About a year and a half ago I quit smoking, gained 7 pounds and have only taken off 2 pounds of that (with effort to keep it off) I am having gastro-intestinal problems too (having a hard time keeping things moving)

Last November I went on the Southbeach diet and it took two weeks to lose 2 pounds, which came right back on. I continued with phase one and a bit of phase 2 to try to add more fiber to my diet (the fiber made matters worse for me) I drink 12 cups of water a day (Drs. orders) and exercise all the time (cardio 5 times a week strenth training 4 times a week, split body routine)

The other day I decided to try phase one again and be very strict about it. Not sure I did anything "wrong" last time. I only have about 5 pounds to lose, preferably 8 pounds, but happy with 5. I'm on day 2 and I'm hungry and feeling bloated.

The problem is I'm feeling like such a failure! How do I keep my motivation up and my belief that this works. Sorry for being so long winded, guess I just need to vent. I'm frustrated because I don't really have anyone to talk to about this. It's hard to get support when you don't have that much to lose.

Any advise/help would be greatly appreciated! Some snack ideas would be great too. I need to stay away from cheese, too binding.

Lisa, just found this while scanning the SBD-site... "Sandy" is the site nutritionist:

Member Question: I am not losing weight. Why?

Sandy: There are a number of possible reasons that you have not lost weight. One of them is that you have not cut all of the high glycemic carbs out of your diet. Look closely at what you are eating to see if this applies. Another possibility is you are very close to your ideal body weight and do not need to lose weight for health purposes but cosmetic. Check to see if your BMI is below 25. This is the cut off for normal weight. If this is the case, patience is the key to success as it will be slower weight loss. Another cause can be attributed to menopause. A woman going though menopause has decreasing amounts of estrogen that can lead to difficulty losing weight. Adding exercise can help boost metabolism, and weight loss should occur. The last possibility that prevents weight loss may be attributed to a medical condition. This would apply to a small percentage of those trying to lose weight. After a couple of weeks with no weight loss on Phase 1, it would be recommended for you to consult with your physician. He/she may want to run some blood tests to check if this may be the cause for not losing.

Thanks for your help Susan. That info was very helpfull. Although I'm a certified trainer and nutrition counselor it's hard to "counsel" yourself. I'll try to be patient and see what happens. Somebody else rec. to me that I stop weighing myself everyday. How do you ask the site nutritionist, Sandy, a question?

I'll be back frequently to help me stay motivated!
