1. The diet specifies that we shouldn't be measuring things but are we supposed to only have, for instance, a tablespoon of oil on our salad or can we put our oil and vinegar to taste? Ditto for other measurements (ex: how much laughing cow cheese consitutes a snack - one wedge or 2?) What exactly constitutes a snack anyway (LOL)- I have always used fruit for a snack in the past.
2. Desert? Do I have to have desert with dinner or can I save it for later to eat when I get hungry again. I am not always in the mood for desert right after a meal.
3. Is this diet safe for someone who doesn't want / need to lose a tremendous amount of weight. I am short and I have put on a few pounds (at my height, 5 pounds is a noticeable difference in my clothes) and I would like to take them off. I would love to be 10 pounds thinner but I'd be happy with 5 - is this a safe way to do it?
4. Am I doing something wrong? Everyone else I know said that they lost 3-7 pounds in the first 3 days. Should I expect that as well? I got on the scale this morning (day 2) because I figured if my friend lost 7 pounds in three days I should have lost at least a pound in 1. I know it sounds ridiculous but I am really curious about this.
5. I have been using "Veggie Slices" for cheese for the past month or so. They are a soy/tofu product sold in the produce section of the grocery store. Are these okay on this diet?
6. Can I use skim milk in my coffee or tea? The book says "no dairy" in phase one.
7. Is turkey bacon okay?
8. The menus call for certain combinations of foods but is is necessary to follow them? For instance if I eat an egg subsitute omelet with spinach (and maybe cheese) and my decaf coffee, is that okay or do I have to have the tomato juice, too (not a big fan of tomato or veg juice) and the bacon?
9. Does cheese have to be low or non-fat? Is goat cheese okay?
Obviously I am completely confused so I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks, ladies!

The basis of SBD is to eat until you are satisfied, but a few things like nuts and peanut butter are measured. Common sense is not to go over board on the oils. They do have fat and calories like everything else in life that we eat. So I say - all in moderation. A little olive oil goes a long way & vinegar could be used more so in salads. My favorite combo is 1-2 TSPS of olive oil & 1 TBSP or more of Red Wine Vinegar. Plus add a little seasonings & you have a tasty dressing.
I would say if you feel the need for 2 wedges of cheese go for it. Otherwise, stop at one & see how you feel. My favorite snacks are Pnut Butter & celery, salsa & veggies, yogurt (plain of Vanilla - Fat Free) and peanuts. What ever sounds like a good snack to curb your hunger & it is on the foods to eat list for phase 1 - go for it! Snacks obviously are not whole meals. Just something to tame the beast.

I normally wait until an hour or 2 after dinner for a snack.

Yep! It is all about changing the way you eat & eating healthier. You might not lose as fast as someone who has more weight to lose, but you will feel a lot better eating the SBD way.

Nope! Eveyone's body is different & we all lose at a different rate. For my Phase 1, I lost 1.8 pounds. I lose at a turtle's pace. Frustrating, yes. But I know that I am making real changes by losing slow. I did not put on the weight overnight, thus will not lose the weight over night. Plus, you need to consider how much weight your pal & others need to lose. If they need to lose a lot of weight - the faster it will come off in the begining. The last few pounds are the hardest to lose. They love it on your body the most. Don't lose heart, though. This whole journey is about being healthier.

Not sure on this. Check the ingredients. Susan (cl-its_me_susan) posted something on ingredients yesterday. Check the Chit-Chat section. My personal advice is to go with a LowFat or 2% cheese slice. Calcium helps weightloss.

6. Can I use skim milk in my coffee or tea? The book says "no dairy" in phase one.
Yep! There are new guidelines & 1½ cups of yogurt & milk are allowed. Both need to be low fat or fat free. And the yogurt should either be Vanilla or Plain.

7. Is turkey bacon okay?
Yep!

Do whatever you want. I did not follow the menu guide, but just did my own thing & made sure all my foods came from the "Foods to Enjoy" list.

Cheese does need to be low fat or no fat. Not sure on the goat cheese. I know Feta is good, but not sure if that is what you are asking. Sorry.

Goat cheese is pretty low fat to begin with - so I assume that is why you are asking.
Hi and welcome to the board.
