I keep hitting the wall...
| Mon, 02-23-2004 - 4:13pm |
About 200pm I hit the carbohydrate wall and I'm ready to nap. The weekend was not great and today hasn't been spectacular. I don't want to give up but if I can't do it right, what's the point? I'm tired all the time. I'm grumpy (yes I eat enough) and I have the trots like you would not believe. I did so well last week for those two days and now I just fell off the wagon very hard. Maybe this just isn't for me after all.
Yep, I'm frustrated. I'm getting burned out on eggs for breakfast already. I can't drink another drop of V8 without gagging...blech. I actually held my nose shut this morning to get it down my throat.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I have planned my meals and I'm eating like I should but I can't get past my 2pm down time. Today I had a huge jelly donut. ARRGGGHHH!!
I have no willpower. Someone tell me that my efforts are not in vain even if I screw up.

I have an unorthodox viewpoint around here as you may have noticed, but the only way I've stuck with this since October is by deciding what I can and can't live without, and I think you might benefit from that type of re-evaluation.
I decided I hated low-fat cheese, so I only eat regular now. I just eat a little less of it. When I revisit Phase 1, I'll still allow myself some semi-sweet chocolate chips for dessert instead of the endless ricotta cremes. It's taken a lot of trial and error for me to figure out what works for me, but I've found that bending the rules can work to your advantage and help keep you on track.
If you don't like the eggs and the V8 for breakfast, don't eat them. Forcing yourself to do that will only make you resent the whole WOE. Why not make breakfast an amnesty meal? If you're in P1, forget it for a bit and have a P2 breakfast like a multi-grain bagel with some yogurt on the side (I also love egg sandwiches with the whole grain bread and some cheese, yummy!) Even though the book says not to have fruit by itself for breakfast, I do that pretty frequently. I only buy vanilla yogurt most of the time, and I'll just add fresh fruit to it when I get sick of eggs.
I think you need to experiment a bit to figure out what will work best for you...good luck, let me know if you need anything, and I'm sure you're doing just fine, you just need a little personal tweaking to get really comfortable with this!

I would tend to agree with Shan. Adapt as best you can....make some changes you can live with. Take inventory of all the bad carbs and fats that you are NOT eating. Think about all the sugar that is NOT being deposited directly on your hips.
You ARE many steps ahead already. Doing it perfectly may not be your route, but it does sound like you want to make healthy changes. See what works for you. I'm sure that others will have suggestions on small changes that they made.
Sometimes it takes time to give small changes a chance to become comfortable; and then you can become comfortable with more change.
Shan's suggestions for breakfast may work for you. Maybe slipping into Phase 2 breakfasts would be better than giving up......kind of like changing the earrings or the necklace instead of changing the whole outfit.

I am sick of eggs. There I said it and I'm not ashamed...today I had my oatmeal (old fashioned cookin' kind) with my peanut butter and a glass of milk for breakfast. This is my favorite breakfast in the whole world (well, it is if you add a banana into the mix but I didn't) and I don't suppose it will completely derail my efforts if I have it a couple times a week.
I dumped out the big can of V8...I can't even stand the smell of it anymore.
So, instead of giving up entirely, which is what DH encouraged me to do last night (please, be kind...he means well, seriously), I'm going to try a different approach. And guess what, I'm not perfect...just a perfectionist...oh well.
I do appreciate the support...and I do want to keep my health. I don't want to wind up like Mom with her 385 cholesterol or my Dad with his coronary artery disease. I have some serious encouragement to stay on top of things. My doc has never even hinted at these things but it pays to stay alert.
Anyway, thanks again. Probably TMI...LoL.
