Salad Dressings

Alright, I just started this diet yesterday. I tried the vinager and oil salad dressing recipe in the book and it was just nasty. The book mentioned something about being able to use other low sugar dressings though. I know that full fat Ranch dressing is allowed in the Atkins diet so would it be an okay sub here? Any other suggests on what to use though?

And I know with Atkins some people get like a nasty headache or queasy the first few days. Is the same true with SBD?

Also, I've just got to say thank GOD for sugar free fudgcicles and jello. I don't know what I'd do without them.

Thanks,

Kristin

Check the labels on salad dressing.

I use the Good Seasons Italian from the packet. It only has 1 gram of sugar. Although, I do like the Balsamic vinager I opted to use half regular half balsamic. It was not as strong.

On another note, I feel so guilty b/c I had a brownie last night and I know it had sugar!!

Kristin,

I'm not happy with a plain vinegar and oil dressing either. I improvised to copy the salad dressing my mother always made. Maybe it will help you too. It's still vinegar and oil, but use olive oil, red wine vinegar, salt, pepper, and then a packet or two of sweetener. It is best to put all of these directly on top of the salad and then toss it so it coats the whole salad. The trick is in getting the balance of each ingredient to your own taste. I think you'll be amazed at what the sweetener will do. I used Splenda.

By the way, my husband is on Atkins and he enjoys the Ranch dressing....original, made with buttermilk and mayo. But that is definitely not okay for us on SBD.

When we've eaten out and I've ordered salad, I tried their oil and vinegar, but who knows what kind of oil it is. So I order thousand island on the side and just dip my fork in it before each bit. I find that it gives the flavor I like but I barely use 1/4 of the amount they bring me.

Hope this helps,

Judy
