hi all ! i'm on my 3rd day and i'm really not having too much trouble adjusting. but i have not been following the menus at all. I have not eaten any pasta , potatoes, rice or bread or sugar. (i have had some skim milk in my coffee though) For instance yesterday i ate part skim cheese sticks, coffee, turkey bacon , 1 egg, i sugar free pop, sugar free jello and for dinner a turkey burger with soy sauce , sauteed onions fat free cheese on lettuce. my ? is, if i continue on this way, no matter how much i eat, but with no bad carbs, will i be successful in phase 1? thanks for any advice...and for this board it's been really helpful! best to you all, chris

Hi, You don't have to necessarily follow the recipes in the book. I, for one, don't particurly like the recipes in the book because I am very picky. But my boyfriend and I are following the good carbs vs. bad carbs rule and the other things and we are both losing. I think the recipes are in the books to give ideas of what to eat. Good luck!

Chris,

Great job! Initially I used the book to a "T". Once I got the hang of it, mainly by reading all the great tips on this board, I started doing my own thing. Sounds like you have got it under control!! Continue good luck....!!!

This seems to be a very adaptable diet. I started last Monday on phase 1, I don't have the book so didn't use any of those menus, just went off of the phase 1 foods to enjoy list. Since I'm BF'ing I switched to phase 2 after 4 days and have still seen a nice weight loss.

I did exactly that. I just used the guidelines I got off the website (haven't read the book). Ate eggs for breakfast, veggies/cheese for midmorning/afternoon snack if needed, chef salad or other similar salad for lunch, and then "sensible no carb dinner". I only lost 1-2# after the first 2 weeks but have lost 5# total after 2 more weeks on phase 2. During "phase 1" I had a total of 3 glasses of wine, 3 slices of WHITE bread and some rice and one baked potato. Other than that I was good. (oh, and one day I ate 3 cookies). since starting on 2 I have followed the guidelines pretty well but have eaten a couple desserts I shouldn't have and had a baked potato. I have to say that I've been having trouble losing weight for about 3-4 years now. I've always been very thin but when I hit about 36 my metabolism changed and I've been adding about 3-4 pounds or so a year so now I'm about 15 lbs overweight. I tried obsessive exercising (5-8 hours per week cardio), counting calories etc etc. My diet was actually pretty good before this so I was worried that it wouldn't work but it does! It might take you a bit longer but this way you don't make yourself crazy. If I'm going out with friends I don't freak out if I eat a couple french fries! Good luck!!
