Okay, almost every weekend we go out to eat here in our small town. The choices are limited to Chinese, Fish / Steak House, or Mexican. I truly dislike fish so with that out of the way what are some good choices especially from the Chinese and Mexican places??

Hi! Here are some ideas:

Chinese - order chicken and broccoli without the sauce, add soy if you like.

Mexican - fajitas - ask them to hold the tortilla. All the fixin's are OK - salsa, guacamole, peppers, onions. I would avoid the sour cream and the cheese because they are probably not low fat. Once you are in P2 you can have refried beans and the tortilla.

Hope this helps!

Everything Karen said, good.

I'm doing Ph II/Ph III, so I go a little crazy once in a while. Chinese - I eat the stuff inside the egg roll, but leave the wrap. I'll eat the fried shrimp, but I'll pull off the breading. Same for chicken fingers. Even a couple of bites of some egg foo yong (chicken or veggie) isn't horrible; it's kind of an omelet. Just don't eat the brown sauce that usually is served with it. Mexican - I ordered a burrito a week ago and just ate the insides - it was a shredded beef seasoned differently from fajitas and that difference is what I wanted to taste. Luckily, it was also quite lean.

I go out to eat most weekends and I've found that most places have some sort of salad with chicken on it. Maybe your steak place will have something similar. Most pizza places will have a chef salad and I ask for just turkey or roast beef on it. I'll order it with blue cheese as that's usually low carb. Once you've scoped out the menu with an eye to SBD, there are modifications that you can ask for- like hamberger without the bun, extra veggies instead of the potato. I'm always asking for changes to dishes. The servers are always accomodating and some say- Oh- Atkins or South Beach? Best thing about it, it's the foods I like anyway, so it doesn't feel like I'm being deprived. Usually my meal is the biggest!

Good Luck!

Also, just an idea. if it's not tex mex but real mexican, there will always be some sort of grilled fish on the menu. i've found that as i removed the sugar from my diet, i really enjoyed adding spices--hot peppery spices in particular. a grilled fish thing with some veggies at our local mexican place is one of my favorite meals.

i've found that i have to be careful where i order a salad. at some places, it's just plain old iceberg lettuce, canned olives and some cut up tomatoes. blech. so i try to be creative.

jmo

hope
