New to SBD

Hello everyone,

I looked into and started Atkins a couple of nights ago. Someone on another board mentioned something about SBD and I looked into that, too, and that seems a whole heck of a lot better. So I'm starting SBD now (thank goodness I don't have to eat sausage anymore!!! LOL! Now I just have to learn to like cottage cheese....gross).

I am 192lbs right now (I'm 5'11", so it doesn't show quite so much on me, but it's still there.) My goal weight is 160 - I'd like to go for 150, but I think that'd be verging on an unhealthy goal for me. Last time I weighed 150, I was going through an eating disorder and I don't want to go there again. If by following the diet I go down that low, that's just fine with me, but 160 is where i want to be for my immediate goal.

I *need* to lose 11 lbs in 10 weeks. I'm hoping that's possible. After a couple more days I'll be getting back into working out (I'm not feeling too well these first few days of changing my eating habits, but I know that'll pass.)

Looking forward to the encouragement of others changing their eating habits to this program.

Karyn,

You made a great choice! Welcome to South Beach, and to this message board. You will get great encouragement, motivation, advice, and recipes here. Don't worry, you do not have to eat cottage cheese!

Did you buy the book? If not there are many posts with food lists here that can help you get started. Within the first 7 days you will see and feel a weight loss, and that will help motivate you through the first 2 weeks (phase 1). Then you are on to phase 2, and you will begin to add back good carbs (something that I don't think Atkins does, but I could be wrong).

Good luck,

Karen

Thanks!

Actually, not being on Atkins is a little more motivating to me in and of itself. I cannot eat anything for breakfast!!!! I can't eat sausage or bacon or fried or scrambled eggs in the morning...maybe in the afternoon, but not the morning. In some ways, SBD limits you even more, but I feel *better* about what I can eat. I just don't think I can focus on meats to fill me up. This lets me snack on nuts, and has more veggies it seems.

I did have one issue with lunch - chicken: I couldn't have breasts, I ate at a buffet and they only had legs and thighs. I didn't eat the skin, but I needed SOME protein so I figured it'd be OK. Along with it I ate a large salad with broccoli, cauliflower, onions and tomatoes, and stir fried veggies (cabbage, green peppers and onions; I picked out the carrots which was heartbreaking for me). I'm sure I ended up with more than 1T oil, as I put a little oil and vinegar on my salad (about 1/2T) and I'm sure the stir fry was prepared with oil. Not only that, I'm pretty sure it was vegetable oil. This just teaches me to bring my own olive oil with me to work.
