Swiss Miss no added sugar hot cocoa?

I have a box of Swiss Miss No Sugar Added instant hot cocoa - - nutrition label says: calories: 60; total fat: 1 g; total carbohydrate: 10g and sugars: 7g. As I'm writing this I'm realizing that it's probably not okay on phase 1 (or any phase for that matter) but I wanted to check with what others think.

Thanks very much. -Ellen

Ellen,

What are the ingredients? Sometimes the nutritional information is not quite as important as the ingredient list.

Thanks,

Hi! I just posted this same question (it got cold here again, too!) and here was the reply...it's not good :(

Anyone know about s/f hot chocolate that you mix with hot water?

Hi dragonmamma, it's very important to read the labels. Most of the packets list ingredients that aren't good, especially partially-hydrogenated oil (it's in most of them). I know that sounds strange being a dry powder product, but it's in there, somehow. Also, they do have sugars in them. For example, I'm reading the label right now on Nestle' "no sugar added" reduced-calorie hot cocoa mix, and it has 9 grams of sugar in it.

Personally, I wouldn't use this product on Phase 1, but if I found a good-quality hot cocoa with less sugars, I might use it occasionally on Phase 2 if I found one that was trans-fat free (with no partially-hydrogenated oil). So, be a label-reader if you want to find the best choice you can. :)

Hope that helps,

kristin

I don't know anything about the Swiss Miss, but I've made myself the occasional hot cocoa that I think is probably okay:

Heat 1 C skim milk in microwave.

Stir in 2-3 tsp. unsweeted cocoa powder and 2T splenda. mmmmmmmmm If I really need a treat I put a little light Reddi-Whip on top. Heaven.

Ooooh, this recipe sounds great! I'm going to try it soon cause I have given up hot cocoa because of the really bad ingredients. Thank you so much for sharing! :-)

I've been drinking sugar free hot chocolate all along (2 months) because the book said we could have it. Now I'm really upset because it's not actually okay. It's been a real help to me during chocolate cravings. I've had at least one cup per day with water. Maybe that's why I'm losing so slowly! Darn!

Hi Rhonda, I don't remember seeing in the book that instant hot chocolate was a good thing to have on South Beach.

Thanks very much! I don't have the book with me, so I can't look at it. You're obviously right that I just misunderstood. I just feel really bad because I've chowed down on this! Thanks for the great recipe!
