Starting over....

Hi there - I'm starting over....I am new to this site and hoping it will help this time around! I read the book at Christmas and started on SBD - totally gung ho! I did P1 for 2 weeks and lost about 9lbs. I was so excited! I got to P2 and just got crazy-I couldn't seem to control the re-introduction of the good carbs...I went overboard. So, here it is March and I am finally ready to start over. I have continued to make the quiche every week and freeze it in separate baggies and take it to work for breakfast (this actually works great when you're on the go!) I also have my peanuts and cashews all counted out and put in snack baggies - and I have my cheese stix - I'm very organized, but am having a hard time getting motivated again. Any words of advice from those who have had to start over?

Melissa

I'm someone who had to start over big time. A couple of years ago I lost down to very close to my goal weight. By last October I had gained it all back but congratulated myself on not gaining more. Over the holidays I then gained 10. So January I was starting over plus! So I dusted myself off and got going again. What motivated me? Knowing how unhealthy I had become was a big factor but it was the thought of another summer hiding my bathing suit in a big t-shirt and only getting in the water when I thought no one was looking. So for me, that bathing suit is a big motivator. I made a week by week chart of what I was going to lose (more in the begining, then a one and one half a pound week loss) and I know I will be a great weight (although not goal) by bathing suit time. I hit a stall and was behind my goal for a while but waited it out and I caught up with losses. I exercise a lot knowing that will help my weight loss, and it has helped.

Next time to Phase Two try introducing the new carbs one at a time, see what triggers for you. Eating a Phase One breakfast also helps. Planning ahead like you've done is just perfect. I always have the correct food available.

Good luck, hope my story helped!

and here's an easy to follow guide:

The South Beach Diet is designed so that you can easily swap meals and ingredients. If you don't like eggs for breakfast, have low-fat cottage cheese or lean meat instead. Not a fish lover? Then choose lean beef or poultry. In Phase 1 of the diet, you can eat as many proteins and vegetables as you like, plus fats like olive oil. Fruit and starches aren't allowed until Phase 2. Here's a look at some general eating guidelines, plus substitution ideas.

Hi! I started about 8 weeks ago, a major carb junkie. I shake my head as I look back. I had carbs hidden all over the kitchen! I did well on my first phase 1 and then about 2 weeks into phase two totally fell off! Valentines Day sent me in a tailspin. I set myself up for another P1 just like the book says to do. I did it. I wondered if you could fail, really fail and then get back on this diet and the answer is you can! The second phase one was easier than the first time around. The cravings were totally eliminated with my second P1, whereas my first time around they weren't all the way gone (I attribute it to just how bad I was before starting). Now going in to P2 I have added an apple with peanut butter in the morning and a wasa with laughing cow chz in the afternoon for snacks. If I'm planning a carb in my supper I don't have it for one of my snacks. this is my balance -- you'll find yours! Keep trying because if I could do it -- ANYBODY can. You'll do great!
