A very depressing start- need encouragem

I am done with week 1, and am currently 2 lbs heavier than when I began. I have been following this diet to the letter, have been doing 30 min of cardio daily (exercise bike), drinking a lot of water, not eating a lot of nuts. The logical part of me says it must be water weight as AF approaches, but the sabotaging, dieting defeatist says this weight (and there is alot of it- almost 40 lbs) will never leave me. Could my portions be too large? Is it possible to eat too much salad, because that's where I load up. I'm pretty careful with the higher calorie foods on the diet. I like this diet, I think I can live this way, but I do want and need to drop some weight, and at this rate, it's gonna take years. I need some encouragement, guys.
