morning workout - eat first??

I am realizing that there is no way I am going to be able to work out unless I do so in the morning - but it's really hard to do so! I used to work out in the afternoon, but my new job does not have a gym on site, so morning it will have to be. I think a big problem is that when I get up I haven't eaten anything...so, should I eat first, wait then work out? Have some of my breakfast then work out and finish it? I don't want to spend hours at home in the morning before work, but I also don't want to work out on an empty stomach. I'd love some suggestions or tips.

Thanks so much,

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth!!

I had the same question a bit ago and from what I read they say to exercise first thing in the morning on an empty stomach because when you do that, your body goes to burn your fat cells, whereas when you eat and then exercise, your body goes to the food you just ate for its energy thus burning less calories than you would exercising on an empty stomach. I recently started trying this and have seen wonderful results. I usually eat about a 1/2 hour to an hour after I workout in the mornings, but I don't think it matters how long you wait before eating.

Also, if you choose to exercise later in the day, make sure you havent eaten anything an hour before doing so, this again is the concept of burning more calories from your fat cells versus the calories you have consumed.

I hope this make sense, I believe it's been working for me because the scale is going down versus up like last week.

Hi Bonnie! Thanks for the tip. Do you find that you are hungry in the morning? I suppose I will have to see for myself, but I guess since I'm eating less than I normally do, I anticipate being hungry. Maybe I'll be so tired that my tummy won't know ;)

Thanks again!

Just my two cents here - I have very low blood pressure and in the a.m. often feel faint.
