when will the cravings end???

DH and I are on day 5 of phase 1. We were just at the market stocking up for a trip to visit the inlaws this weekend, and all I could think was mmmmmm cookies. mmmmmm candy. mmmmm rice, pasta, bread!!! I enjoy all the food on this phase, but I really miss grains - even brown rice, quinoa, barley. I know we'll be able to eat these soon, but what's this business about cravings going away????

I honestly don't think I'll ever be repulsed by jelly beans or gummy bears or tea cookies. I'll never be able to walk down a candy aisle and think "eh, not for me". We have not yet slipped up, mainly because we WANT the cravings to go away - but I'm just having a hard time believing that they will.

Anyone else?

My theory is that the bigger the cravings for sugar and starches, the more this diet actually works in curbing cravings. I was the type that if I ate one cookie, the whole bag would go. Now I could sit next to a bag and not notice. (I also do know that if I ate one, the cravings would all come back.) There's a post that talked about what type of dieter you are and I'm an "all or nothing."

The cravings will go away and you will need no willpower to stay on SBD. It starts to happen in week two.

Sally,

I am right there with you. I have two kids, 7 and 4. They are both healthy eaters, especially for their ages, but Saturday morning has always been big breakfast morning. My 7 year old son requested French Toast. Now I make it with whole wheat bread, so it's not actually that bad until you add the powdered sugar and syrup. I was really tempted just to eat the couple of bites he left on his plate. I resisted, but it was hard. I'm on day 5 and I actually feel great this morning. More energy than I've had in a while, but I would sure love a big ol' cinnamon roll right about now.

Lori,

Good for you for resisting that french toast.
