impossible NOT to be in a BIT of ketosis

This is probably going to cause some controversy, but here it is. I am now in the second half of phase 1. just to check, I purchased some ketone sticks to see if I was spilling some ketones in my urine. I am, but just a bit. I am following this diet to the letter. In a previous post I was frustrated because I gained back the weight I lost, but it was because It was the day before my period. Now I am back to the 5 pound weight loss which is reasonable for day 8, so I am not complaining about the diet. I am just saying that because of the substitute of protein snacks for carbohydrate snacks you are of course consumming more protein and the healthy kind of fat. Even though there are carbs in things such as: V8 juice and romaine lettuce, they are much less than what is in a glass of orange juice or slice of bread. So, your body is forced to utilize the protein as energy. The waste from the protein is eliminated in the urine as ketones. I am not eating huge amounts of protein either, just the amounts recommended. I am not limiting the recommended vegetables in phase 1. I have to keep making trips to the market for more vegetables! Again, I am not in heavy ketosis, just the lightest color according to the color chart on the bottle, (light pink). I am drinking plenty of water and I am certainly not constipated. I bet that if other people on this board in phase 1 tested their urine, they would find they are also in slight ketosis.

In the book, Dr. A doesn't seem to have a problem with ketosis. He does say it's "associated with a decrease of fluid volume and some deydration which can be a problem with patients with kidney disorders or those on anti-hypertensive medication." He said he saw no danger in ketosis. Others with more expertise can give the fine details of their differences in types of foods on each diet. SBD doesn't count carbs like Atkins, which to me makes me eat more and with Atkins, I would shy away from too many, now I'm sure I get enough. Not so much the diet, as my use of it. I always had trouble getting those strips to show anything. I still have some and maybe I'll check it out again.
