phase 1 - sapping my will!

Ugh. I'm very frustrated today. I am SICK of eggs, SICK of chicken, SICK of salmon, SICK of salads. I am really beginning to believe that the cravings wont actually go away - they truly seem to get worse. DH and I went to visit family this weekend and it was such a drag to have to be so picky with food. We were at a party yesterday afternoon - it was so hard to not just reach for a piece of cake, or bread, or fruit! We spent nearly an hour just packing and preparing food for the car ride (6 hours, each way). At this point I would kill for a chocolate chip cookie or bowl of cereal. And don't try to tell me that a fudgcicle, ricotta, or jello will do the trick. I'm sick of those too.

It's day 8. How am I going to get through the rest of phase 1? My weight has not changed amd I'm beginning to wonder what the point is. I feel like aside from too much candy and too much dessert, our diets were more varied and satisfying before this - I'M SO DARN BORED!

Also, you would think with all the veggies, salads, beans that um, digestively, things would be, um, moving along...NOPE. I actually feel like I need to stock up on correctol.

Please help me motivate...

sorry to be such a downer.

Hi Elizabeth!!!

Take a deep breath!! It's gonna be OK!

You say you haven't lost any weight, yet from your stats at the bottom of the post it looks like you are down 3+ pounds - in 7 days!! That is actually really good progress!! Just stick with it, you WILL see more results.

Let's see if we can help you with food. What have you been eating? Can you give us a sample day? What do you want to eat? Maybe we can come up with a creative alternative!

Keep with it, relax, and let us help!

Hugs,

Karen

Do you like beef or other fishes???? I make taco salad atleast once a week and it is wonderful: seasoned beef, black beans, lettuce, tomato and cheese!! Mmmm!!!! Flounder, haddock and tourbot are all EXCELLENT fishes.

I understand the sick of eggs aspect!!!!!!!!!!!!

As for sweets, have you tried making merengue's: egg whites, cocoa, nuts and splenda. I have not made them yet so I can not vouch for them but they look good! Let me know if you want the recipe. I saw it on "Cooking Thin" on FoodTV!

I have been trying since December but due to holiday's and whatnot I keep getting off track. This is the third time that I am starting phase 1 within the past month. Weekends kill me and I lose all inhabition.

Just think 4 more days and you can have oatmeal, pudding and fruit. Mmmmm!!!!!!!

I do understand the boredom - but think outside the box here.

First off, typical day so far:

two eggs scrambled with mushrooms peppers low fat cheese

or

1 c nf yogurt with vanilla extract/cinnamon/splenda.

coffee w/nf "half and half" (still haven't figured out how that one works ;))

**the thing is I kind of find eggs disgusting - long story, work related - I'm a scientist, enough said! but the yogurt really isn't satisfying. It's not that I get too hungry - sometimes I'm not even hungry for a snack, it's just that I love cereal and I find eating something I decidedly don't like depressing first thing in the morning. It's like a chore.

snack

cheese stick (lf moz)

lunch

usually leftovers (lean beef, fish or chx)

steamed spinach or salad

later snack

lw turkey, cut up veggies

or

bean salad

or

15 walnuts

dinner

some lean meat

steamed veg

dessert

usually sf jello or ricotta.

DH and I will try to make chili tonight. I just really miss grains - not starch so much, grains.

This is the reason I was hesitant to try a "diet." I have a severe psychological aversion to food rules, yet at the same time I clearly have a willpower issue - I'm sort of high maintanance ;)

DH and I are really doing this to detox and kick some unhealthy eating habits. By and large, we eat a really varied and balanced diet. It was just getting heavy on the potatoes and sweets. I don't know, I'd love to be able to reach 130 again, but at the same time, the last time I weighed that I was in college and I don't know if it's a reasonable goal (I'm 5'8). My plan is to finish out this week, then incorporate the lessons learned.

Right now my gutless self just wants to say "oh I've learned enough - pass the vino!"

Thanks for the encouragement and any advice or similar stories!

Elizabeth,

Hi again! Thanks for posting your meals. Cathy's ideas for thinking out of the box are great! I think I can make a few more suggestions.

For breakfast, have you tried the SBD french toast with some turkey bacon?

Also, I don't think you are eating enough to satisfy.

How about wrapping your snack time cheese stick with some deli turkey and dipping into some really good mustard?

Do you like beans? Add some to your salads to really satisfy.

Here is a lunch idea DH and I really love:

Canned white meat chicken (found near the tuna), tossed with white beans, chopped celery, cucumber, tomato, red bell pepper, scallion, radish, etc. and add some vinegar and oil - YUMMY for lunch.

For dinner - eat more! I usually make a warm veggie and a cold one (ex. steamed vegetable and green salad) along with our grilled chicken or fish choice.

Hope this helps - and as others have said, only a few more days until you are adding bread, fruit, etc.

Elizabeth, welcome and a thought for you - i have always been very prone to craving what I can't have. I absolutely DO NOT have any of these carb cravings that the ladies have -

Thanks Tracy,

That's good advice and really my plan. I just want to stick with phase 1 for the two weeks, give the cravings a chance to at least wane a little, then incorporate the changes into a less rigid framework.

As an aside, thanks to everyone else for the encouragement.

I realized my other problem. After 10 years on the pill, I went off about 6 weeks ago. I finally got my period - last night after complaining to you all.

Guess I had forgotten what PMS can do!!!!

Thanks again!!

Hi Elizabeth, you're so right, that PMS can make a woman nutty!
