on phase 1? I looked and they only have 2 grams of sugar per serving and tons of fiber--the same as other beans. I hope they are, because that is what I had for lunch today.

What about pinto beans? They aren't listed in the book, but I don't see how they are any different than the other beans listed.

Also, what about tomato sauce? I made stuffed peppers the other day, and the sauce I used has no added sugar or corn syrup.

Hi! Black eyed peas and pinto beans are allowed only in phase 2. They are both healthy choices with lots of fiber, but their glycemic index is higher than other beans which is why we have to wait for phase 2 to enjoy them.

Some jarred or canned tomato sauces ar okay as long as they are low in (natural) sugar and do not have and ADDED sugars. It is so easy to make your own tomato sauce - just fresh or canned tomatoes, and some spices. But again, be careful when buying any canned tomato product that there are no added sugars.
