How to start??

Hi all, I've read all the posts about nursing and SBD and I am going to borrow my sister's copy of the book on Thursday to read it for myself. Also, my nursling is over a year so I have a little more leeway than a new nursing pair.

My question before I even get going is this: Did you have to clean out your fridge/cupboards? How did you get yourself to stop the suguary, starchy, fatty stuff? I'm a really bad person for eating what's there and eating when I'm not even really hungry. So, I feel like I'd have to get it out of the house. But I know it's not fair for my son to not get mashed potatoes ever. So how do you cook that stuff for spouses/children but then make sure you don't taste it or heaven forbid eat a serving (or more LOL)!?

I've always been heavy (though never this bad) and once about 4 years ago I got to within 18 lbs of the insurance guideline for my height but I didn't really feel or appreciate that I was there, never got new clothes or felt good about losing the 83 pounds and then I didn't keep at it. Then I got pregnant and I've just gone down the tubes since then. I always feel like I'm the absolute biggest person in every situation and I'll bet that right now I have more weight to lose than anyone here (based on the numbers on the bottom of the posts)so I'm really scared to try again and 'fail'. Did anyone here start out being this worried? I know I need to do this it's just so daunting to have so far to go...

TIA Melissa

ps My sister was normal weight all her life until she had my 3yr old neice & only needs to lose like 40 pounds at the most (I think) so I don't think we'll really able to relate to each other much on this issue. That's why I'm asking all of you and not her. :)

Melissa,

I totally understand what you are talking about with the weight issue. I to have to lose more then just a "few" pounds. I was actually at the point of going through testing to have gastric-bypass surgery. This is a much healthier way for me to go.

But something that I have learned from reading on the board is that no matter if you have 100 pounds to lose, or 20 pounds to lose, we are all in the same boat.

You will lose the cravings!!! Potato chips are the worst for me!! But I have 2 bags at my house right now for others in the family and it does not even bother me any more. Trust me that in its self is a miracle.

I am just a month into this.. The weight was coming off good and now I have stalled for a bit, but I still have faith and my clothes are still getting bigger so I know I am doing something right.
