Swiss Cheese...

Is LF swiss cheese okay? it's not on the P1 list, but I see it on a recipe I have for Phase 1. And, I had a hard time finding it. Is it naturally low fat??? I got the Shop Rite brand, it doesn't say on the label that it's "low fat" however, the ingredients say "pasteurized part-skim milk". For 1 ounce it's 100 calories, 8 g fat -- is that considered low fat??

TIA,

Diane

I have been using swiss on Phase 1 in recipes and for snacking. I am 99% positive that it is ok to eat during Phase 1. I specifically buy reduced sodium/reduced fat swiss. I believe it's Alpine Lace. You should be able to find it right in the deli. I hope this helps :)

Hi Diane, yes, most any of the low fat or fat free cheeses are fine.

Thanks Maggie. No, the label says nothing about it being low or reduced fat, they had a regular version and this one, a "no salt added" version.

Ingredients: pasteurized part-skim milk cheese culture and enzymes.

serv size 1 oz

fat 8 g

carb 1 g

sugar 0 g

protein 8 g

I'm going to assume it's okay. Hopefully it is. We had a fantastic dish tonight "mushroom swiss chicken". yum.

I will have to look at the deli counter next time - for the Alpine Lace I guess.
