A little discouraged...

Ok, I know it's silly, and I know I shouldn't expect too much. BUT I really wish I'd see some difference somewhere. My hubby is so sweet. He saw me moping about last night and wanted to know what was wrong. He's been super supportive of this diet. So, I told him that even though I am not having a horrible time with what kinds of foods I am allowed to eat, I HATE following these "Rules" for nothing. And I have seen no difference and didn't know if I could hang in there. And he said "Actually, I did think the other day that your face looked like it was a little thinner, if that helps".  I don't know if he was lying or not, but it did help a little. So, another day cheat free.

ACK! I just want to see something for my trouble. And the bummer is, tomorrow night till Friday night was a big planned cheat time. I probably won't go crazy, because I don't want to undo what I've already done (as far as breaking some habits) and I was planning to do Phase 1 for THREE weeks because of that splurge, but I was hoping to see something good about this before then.

Is that unrealistic? Has anyone in Phase 1 seen any difference in their first week?

I guess I should be happy that A) I feel good and B) I am learning self discipline for the first time in my life!

Ok, this was just a rant I guess...

This is day 6 for me Maggie. And really, I haven't cheated at all. I keep wondering if there's something I am doing wrong. Maybe today, here at work, I'll grab a tape measure and do that. I keep meaning to, but I also don't have a measure at home. Duh.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll

I too have been a person that was not all that happy with the results of doing phase one and especially phase 2. So I understand your feelings.

But I truly believe in the quality of the food on the food lists. I will never again buy white rice, rice cakes, instant oatmeal, etc. I go for brown rice, whole wheat pasta, whole grain breads, skinless chicken breasts, fat free or low fat cheese only. My refrigerator as well as my dining table are overrun with fresh vegetables and fresh fruit. I only use the long cooking oatmeal. I have nuts of all kinds in my freezer, keeping them fresh. I buy fish and seafood and eat it with gusto. I love beans and have a huge variety of dried beans and a pressure cooker to prepare them in. Why do I eat like this, because in high school many years ago, I ate Hostess Ding Dongs (Big Wheels) and chocolate milk everyday for lunch. And I was fat. I was a bookworm too. I was fat.

Today I no longer wear size 22/24 pants. Today I got into a very loose size 10 pair of pants. I've learned after losing 90 pounds that even when I'm perfect and don't eat the wrong stuff, I still see weight fluctuations that drive me crazy.

The thing is what are you going to do if you give up this diet. Can you really find a diet you can live with for the rest of your life and that is also a very healthy diet and most likely will benefit the health of your body for years to come? This diet could very well prevent heart attacks, diabetes, stroke, cancer, etc.

Take a look at what you are eating and see if you can make some changes to lower calorie foods for just a little while. Leave out nuts, olive oil, beef, low fat cheese for just a little while. Get more veggies into you day. You can never have too many veggies.

Also if you are not exercising almost every day of the week, you need to increase your exercise, slow at first is ok if not used to exercising. But a daily walk around the block never hurt anyone. It is definitely better to do a little exercise daily than to do lots only three times a week. I speak from experience here.

Don't give up yet. YOU CAN DO IT.

Hi Becky! I don't think you are alone. I have seen alot of post from people who were discouraged in the beginning and then one day, whoosh!, they were a couple of pounds down. I think people just lose weight differently. I did lose weight in the beginning, but my eating habits were horrible!!! I was constantly finishing off my kids fries and nuggets AND all of my meal too. I was eating sweets like crazy and soft drinks too. I never cooked and we always ate out, usually fast food. If your eating habits weren't so extreme, maybe that is why you are not having detox symptoms or losing that initial weight (which is usually mostly water anyway). I really feel it will happen for you!!! Hang in there!

Hi becky, I just read your post and it's the same for me. At first I lost all this water weight and was really excited but now nothing is budging although I am truly faithful to the diet. I am hoping that as my body adjusts to the new way of eating more pounds will come off. sooo hang in there you are doing great :)

Me too - I've been completely faithful to phase 1 for 14 days now - and I have not lost a pound!

Thank you ALL so much. Every bit of advice and encouragement given was what I needed. I knew I could count on you all to "prop me back up"

Siobhan, hang in there with me! If I can do it, you can for sure! I cried to my DH last night how sick it made me that he can eat and eat and eat whatever he wants AND drink beer (which I am missing my rum and cokes) and have it make SO difference whatsoever in his body shape. He's got a little tummy that he's always had and other than that, he looks fantastic. It's just so unfair. I hear you.
