Anyone looking to lose 15 lbs or less?
| Sun, 04-04-2004 - 10:27am |
I'm a college student looking to lose 15 pounds ideally before I graduate in May. I'm planning to stay in Phase 1 for about a month, till May 2. Anyone with similar goals or plans looking for support? I realize that my progress is going to probably be slow b/c I don't have too much I want to lose! And being a college student I sometimes have trouble with the "no alcohol" rule, since there are so many parties to go to senior year and I kinda feel like a "dork" not drinking. (I know it's silly).

Good luck all!
Susan.
I'm on Day 10 of Phase 1 (proud to say I haven't cheated once) and believe I've lost only about 3 lbs but I'll take it! (I'll do an "offical" weigh-in tomorrow.) These last few lbs are very stubborn little creatures.

I'm also in the 15 lbs or less to lose category. I just started SBD last night. I have my 10th college reunion coming up in two months, so I'm not exactly in the same boat as you, but can identify.
It is tough to be good on weekends. Especially those last few weeks of college when you have so much to celebrate with so many good friends! My advice to you is to not let a diet keep you from enjoying the festivities. Definitely go to as many as events possible and stay as long as you normally would. If you aren't drinking you will actually have more energy to stay longer, will have a clearer memory of it, and won't have a headache the next morning. As for feeling dorky, I have friends who don't drink, and no one notices. One was a roommate of mine for more than a month before I knew, and that was only because she mentioned it. She is always at every party. She would be the one to drag the rest of us to bars and clubs. Friends of mine who had met her never believed me when I said she didn't drink, b/c she is just that energetic and happy naturally. If you aren't, learn to fake it. People really don't pay that much attention to what other people are consuming anyhow. Unless you are the keg-stand champion and they want to see a repeat performance, of course. :-)
A favorite of mine if I'm driving or don't feel like drinking--or between drinks to help me pace the consumption to last through a long evening--is club soda with a lime. Looks like a gin and tonic to the casual observer, has almost no calories, refreshing. At our wedding, when folks kept wanting to get a drink for my DH, he had a deal with the bartender that the "bourbon" would actually just be ginger ale.
And remember, dancing is a great form of exercise without feeling like a chore! So get out there and dance the night away.
best of luck and congratulations on your imminent graduation,
Kate
