But I started spotting on Saturday, so I decided yesterday that there's no time like the present! did my meal planning yesterday afternoon and went to the store. Should not have brought DH with me! LOL. He has agreed to go on this with me, although he absolutely should not lose any weight, he's already quite thin (so envious of his metabolism). But I think he could benefit from the healthier eating habits and not having the late-afternoon sugar crash. But while we were at the store he kept sulking and complaining that he was going to starve to death! It was really not fun to deal with his momentary brattiness. I think he actually could have used a snack at that point to get his blood sugar back up (see what I mean?). Then we got home and he sat and watched while I made him the little crustless veggie quiches, cooked dinner, made our snacks and lunches for tomorrow.... Actually, I exaggerate. He did help by making the salad. But he is going to be a thorn in my side b/c he doesn't like a lot of the allowed foods (likes some veggies, but not nearly as many as I do, doesn't like pickles, or olives, doesn't like cheese as a snack but only on pizza or burgers, etc). I've told him that I won't know if he cheats at work, just don't tell me and remember as he is cheating how hard it is for me, too. So long as he doesn't cheat in front of me.
So my goals are
* a healthier diet with more veggies and whole grains.
* fitting into: my skinniest jeans, the dress I wore leaving our wedding reception, the dress I was wearing when I met my DH (and everything else in my closet that no longer fits!)
* 2 inches off the bust, three inches off the waist
* 10-15 pounds (realize the exact number will vary with my muscle mass changes since I was last at my ideal weight)
I've never been on a diet before in my life. I don't really believe in diets, but I do believe in changes for a healthier life.
I've never thought my weight fluctuated more than a pound or so, but between Saturday afternoon (when I bought my new scale) and this morning, I dropped six pounds. I guess that's why we only weigh ourselves once a week!
so that's me in a nutshell,
Kate

Welcome to the board and the beach Kate!
Susan :)
I'm trying really hard to be upbeat about this. A lot of things in life are all about how you frame them. I DO think it will be good for me, and I am really looking forward to getting my old body back. And before it becomes too overwhelming. My mother is probably 60 pounds heavier than she was at 30 and can't seem to make a dent in it. And was recently diagnosed with diabetes in addition to a long-standing cholesterol problem. I don't want that to be me.
DH just called and he is surviving. He hadn't even had his snack yet, and was about to eat it with lunch. I think there's a possibility that this diet will actually get him to eat more calories than he usually does, so maybe he'll actually put on some mass! He's the odd duck who loses weight when he stops working out b/c his muscle mass just shrinks back.
I have to get him to weigh himself, and if he loses weight we'll add fruits and whole grains (but no sweet instant oatmeal!) to his regimen.
