OK I made a ricotta dessert with cocoa and splenda and a little vanilla.  I am quite surprised it is yummy.  Even my kids liked it.

Ok, so Susan, can you tell me what the consensus on which brand to purchase? I've seen so many different posts on this ricotta thing, and my mom HATED those desserts. But I'll never know until I try. And I think I'd like to.

I used a hand mixer and used sargenteno ricotta.

Sorrento's is good, as is Polly-O. Hopefully your supermarket carries them. If you're in NJ/NY/Eastern PA, any brand at the supermarket is likely to be pretty good. Their texture is really creamy. If anyone else has any recommendations, feel free to share!!!

Unfortunately all my supermarket out here in Michigan carries is Kroger (supermarket) brand and Miceli's. Miceli's is no better than Kroger's, and it is more expensive; everything out here is lumpy. I don't like the Kroger brand stuff very much, but I'll eat it anyway. It's quickly losing its charm, though. I'm thinking of writing a letter to Kroger corporate to try to get them to carry Polly-O or Sorrento's in larger containers since so many people are on SBD, and often times I got to the store and there are only one or two containers of part-skim ricotta left.

I realize how spoiled I was with ricotta, though, when I lived in NJ. I make a really incredible lasagna (I learned from my grandmother), and I'd use an entire huge thing of ricotta in it. Ohhhhhhhh, so yummy. Now I will microwave ricotta with some SBD-friendly tomato sauce, and it is gooooooooooooood.

Good luck finding good ricotta!!!
