Not enough food!

Have any of you got "stuck" at work (or elsewhere) and though you thought you'd packed enough food, found you didn't?

That happened to me yesterday. Went out to eat cause got desperate for something "good" (because I was sooo hungry!) and I nearly blew it. Ended up at chipotle and replaced white rice w/beans and didn't worry about lack of lf cheese/sour cream. It could have been much worse.

Thought I did better today. Had incredible bfast of quiche loaf (w/lf cheese, green onions, spinach and roasted brocc. YUMMY!!!!) and a couple of slices of canadian bacon so at least wasn't starving for snack like yesterday (if anyone is EVER tempted to jump start phase 1 cause you feel stuck, skipping protien for bfast is NOT the way to go! I can be such a ding dong sometimes!!! LOL)

Also had celery w/humms for first time and that was so good I wished I'd brought more celery. Now have only salad for lunch w/tons of garbanzo beans. And though I feel good for moment, I am looking at a long afternoon w/only a few pitiful almonds for snack.

I am really planning this badly and running into dangerous 711-is-just-around-the-corner territory!

Doesn't it seem like this should have been enough food? What'm I doing wrong? I don't want to be pigging out.

with SBD you aren't supposed to go hungry. But I agree that it can be tough to find acceptable Ph 1 options from fast food or convenience stores. There really isn't anything in our snack bar or vending machines that is SBD-friendly.

Just now I had a yogurt (ff w/ vanilla, splenda & cinnamon added). 10 minutes later I was still hungry so I had a string cheese. (and I still have celery and cracked red pepper hummus in the fridge b/c I didn't get around to my a.m. snack.)

For the next few days try packing double-size snacks. Eat the first portion, then give yourself a few minutes to see if you are really hungry. I often eat out of boredom or procrastination, which is a habit I'm trying to break.

also make sure you are taking in enough fluids. Thirst is often mistaken for hunger.

I read somewhere on these boards, or maybe in the book (who knows where!), that if it is a consistent problem, taking a spoonful of metamucil in a glass of water before a meal will help the meal stick with you longer. The thought of Metamucil disgusts me (although I've never tried it, so I should keep an open mind), so I haven't tried it.

Me too. Maybe I will pack double size snacks (excpt for nuts. Too bad, cause I could eat a LOT of those) for a while.

I am on lots of water. And am laying off coffee to curb cravings.

The idea of metamusil grosses me out completely. I wonder, would fibercon pills work same way, but be managable as only have to swallow a pill?

Hi Becky,

Kate is right - you shouldn't go hungry.

Becky and Kate -

What disgusts you about the Metamucil......the taste and texture? I went right past that part and bought the capsule form of fiber. Really easy.

Good luck,

Hey ladies,

I have never had Metamucil, but I really like Fiber Choice. It has more fiber than Metamucil, and it is pretty good. You take two chewable tablets, and they taste orange-y and yummy.

Sometimes when I know I'm going out and won't be able to eat for a while or before dinner I take them, and I actually fill up faster. Protein and fiber are the keys to being full :)

Good luck!

This is a good idea! Yep, it's the texture in the drink that I can't take. That's another reason why I haven't bought ricotta yet. I am a texture-phobe! LOL

You can usually get higher quality ricotta at places like Whole Foods (or other specialty markets), and usually that is creamier than what you find at the supermarket. As for the fiber, I just use benefiber. I generally use it in milk or coffee though (or sometimes in my yogurt), because I don't like it in water.
