on Phase 1? My DH & kids are all naturally skinny (so unfair), so I don't want them losing weight. How do you deal with family members not on the SBD? I am looking for any and all ideas on sharing meals that will keep everyone happy. Any tips? TIA!

You could easily make this adjustment. Make the SBD friendly food but sub. in a different side dish for your family (you = veggie, family = rice). This may seem like a hard adjustment but it really should work out well. After, a few days you will not have cravings for the foods that they are eating and you aren't.

Example: These are just some suggestions :

Chicken Parm.

You: chicken breast NO breading

Family: chicken breast w./ breading

You: no pasta....big salad

Family: pasta...salad as well

Chili (SBD friendly)

You: chili

family: chili plus cornbread

Taco Salad (SBD friendly

You: taco meat, black beans, lettuce, tomato, reduced fat cheese

family: taco meat, black beans, lettuce, tomato, reduced fat cheese (taste the same in my opinion), sour cream, tortilla chips

Does this help at all? I hope so.

my kids are young enough that they don't eat much of what we do anyway, but for DH I've been just adding to the sides like mashed potatoes, rice, bread, etc. Like the last post I also made chicken cutlets and breaded half of them for him. I have only been at this a week so I'm sure it will get harder as time goes on, but remember, eating a SBD friendly dinner won't necessarily make anyone else lose weight (when combined with the other foods they eat) but it may just make them healthier!!!!

Good luck, the last post had some great suggestions, I didn't think of a few of those!

I have only been at this a week so I'm sure it will get harder as time goes on ~~~ Just want to encourage you, I've been at this for 2.5 weeks, and it gets EASIER. Easier for you to think "outside the box" with meal planning, easier to not grab something "illegal". Easier to shop this way. Just all the way around easier.

And I totally agree with you. Even if your family doesn't lose weight, this is sooo healthy for them. I feel great that we've knocked off the tuna helper type things. The sodium and preservatives in that stuff is HORRIBLE!

Oh and we did the taco salad/tacos thing last Friday. I loved it, and I just provided taco shells for my DH/DS and everyone was v. happy!

Hi! I do much of what Goldlox does - my meals include an extra veggie, theirs includes a carb side dish.

I always have something kid-friendly in the freezer for when I make a meal that they definately won't eat. Right now I have pre-made hamburgers and chicken breasts that I can quickly defrost and cook up for them. I also have ingredients on hand for pasta with meat sauce and cavatelli & broccoli - two of my family's favorites.

HTH,

Karen :)

Thanks for the ideas! Blending/balancing my diet with my family's shouldn't be too hard, now that I am taking a closer look at it. They already eat lots of veggies and fruit. We've never been into packaged foods really.

I think we'll try the taco salad tomorrow! I also like the idea of stocking up on some quick meal options for the kids. Thanks again!
