Going shopping and need a little help!

This weekend, I'm going to visit a friend at college, which definitely creates a huge problem. My friend and I plan to go shopping in advance and pick up some food for us, but I'm not sure exactly what I should be getting. Most of the food items allowed in Phase 1 require refrigeration and preparation. Is there anything I can buy that doesn't require these things? So far all I can think of is nuts =( Please help! Thanks!

hmmm thats a toughy. Is the problem that there is no fridge where you are going, or are you worried about the food spoiling on the way up? If its the trip you are worried about you may want to just pack a cooler in your car. That is of course unless you are taking a bus to get there. If you are taking mass transportation and there is no fridge to store stuff you may be better off going out to eat for the weekend!!

Maybe you could bring a manual can opener and some cans of tuna!

Your quiestion brings up a really good point. I am curious to see what more experianced SBD members suugest!!!

good luck!!

Can you bring a cooler w./ you for the car? If so then I would suggest some veggie sticks, dressing and cheese for snacks.

If not then mjt2004 made a good suggestion about the tuna. You could also do that w./ canned breast meat chicken. If you like it dry then that is a good option. If you like it w./ mayo then that's ok too. Before mayo is opened it is NOT refridgerated. Maybe, you could find a small thing of mayo that would get used up in one portion (something like a travel size, 2 T or something like that). You could get those Starkist tuna packets (crackers, tuna, relish, mayo) but just not eat the crackers and check the relish for sugar before you use that.

Does this help at all?

Thanks for the response, mjt2004 =) My problem is that there's no fridge where I'll be going. I'm going to be in a very very small dorm the entire weekend. Haha. Anyways, you brought up a good point with the eating out thing. I can see how this is going to get a bit expensive!

Well see ... I don't eat tuna, or any seafood. And while I think it's a great idea to bring a cooler in the car, I'm not sure exactly what I'm going to do for the rest of the time. Thanks again for your posts.

I bought the cookbook yesterday and it says that you can have bean soups. I know that you can buy dehydrated low-fat black bean soup that you just add boiling water to and let it sit for a few mins, I eat them all the time for lunch. And even though it's not suggested in the book, you could pick up a container of protein powder dink mix and mix some with water or low-fat milk and have that for breakfats. Sorry, that's all I can think of since you don't like seafood. Good luck!
