If you like split pea soup you HAVE to make it. Not only does it taste great...its easy to make and it totally fills you up. Being day three of phase 1 for me i was getting a little "egged" and "cold cuts" out. So i made this soup and its great! So if you like split pea soup you MUST make this!!!

Are hambones (hamhocks) allowed for flavoring this, or are those off limits?

I think a real hambone is fine for flavoring.

Hi guys, this is the recipe that I use (got it from this site!)

Split Pea Soup

1 small onion, diced

1 tablespoon vegetable oil

4 cups water

1 (14.50 ounces) can chicken broth

1 1/2 cups dried split peas, rinsed

1 cup cubed fully cooked ham

3 bay leaves

1 1/2 teaspoons salt

1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary

1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

1/4 teaspoon pepper

1. In a large saucepan, saute onion in oil until tender.

2. Add remaining ingredients.

3. Bring to a boil; reduce heat.

4. Cover and simmer for 1 hour or until peas are tender.

5. Discard bay leaves.
