I am losing so much weight w/out exercising (about 3lbs/wk) I'm afraid that exercising will mess this up. If nothing else I will probably gain wght with the muscle gain. Does anyone else have any thoughts or ideas??

No!! You will absolutely not gain weight! It will help you lose weight even faster because it burns the fat. If you do a 30 minute cardio workout and then weights, you will lose even faster. I thought the same thing but that's just not true. I read in the SBD book that even though exercise isn't necessary, it will help you lose weight faster so I gave in and started working out and lo and behold, I started losing weight even faster! It gave my metabolism a boost and I feel better than ever. I have lost not just weight but inches as well. The scale may not reflect how much weight I've actually lost because of muscle conversion from fat to muscle but the scale is still moving down and the clothes are falling off!

Hope this helps! :)

Exercise will do wonderful things.

* It will help you burn more calories in a day

* Lifting weights will help you develop more muscle mass, which burns more calories even when you are asleep

* will help prevent osteoporosis (sp?)

when you first start, especially with lifting weights, you might see a slow down in your weight loss, but the inches will continue to come off. Women generally don't have enough testosterone to develop large, bulky muscles, so you probably don't have to worry about increasing your size through muscle.

The numbers on the scale are a convenient way to judge our size and health, but they really don't give a full picture. Some of the healthiest, most physically fit people weigh more than they "should" if compared to height-weight charts b/c those charts don't take muscle mass into account. Judge your body about what it can DO and how you FEEL instead of by silly numbers on a scale.

(now if I could get myself to dust off my weights.... I keep saying I'm going to, and it really does make a difference when I do, I know that from past experience.)
