Day three, P1, very constipated. Menus have been about the same since the beginning:

Day One:

B-Quiche cups, green tea

S-String Cheese

L-Tuna Salad on Greens

S-Pistachios

D-Chicken on Greens, Caesar Dressing

S-sugar-free Citrucel, Ricotta Creme

Day Two:

B-Quiche Cups, green tea, can of V-8

S-String Cheese

L-Cottage Cheese, salad with Caesar

S-Nuts

D-Grilled chicken on greens, caesar

S-sugar-free Citrucel, Ricotta Creme

Day Three:

B-Quiche cups, green tea

S-String Cheese

L-Going out for business, will post question next

S-String Cheese

D-Asian Chicken, salad and green beans

S-sugar-free Citrucel, Ricotta Creme

I know there's a lot of cheese in there, but I'm having citrucel daily. I am very bloaty and feel sluggish. I'm normally very regular, so this is creeping me out. The stomach pains are uncomfortable. Any advice would be great!

I have been on Phase 1 for a little over a week. After about 4 days I started getting REALLY constipated as well, even with lots of veggies. I somehow missed the part in the book about Metamucil. After hearing of the Metamucil on this board I decided I better do something.

So, yesterday I took magnesium citrate to get everything out and have started on the Metamucil today. (Magnesium citrate is a rough way to go, LOL, spent all day on the pottie, but it really takes care of several days of constipation). Maybe the Citrucel doesn't work as well as Metamucil. Perhaps someone else can give feedback on the many different brands out there to we Newbies.

I Phase 1 I too was struggling with this issue. I was using Metamucil and it didn't seem to help me at all. Then my mom told me that Metamucil is basically Psyllium, which you can get at any 'organic/health' store in pill form. I get mine from "Wild Oats". It worked for me. (Also I've been off Phase 1 for awhile - I think slowly adding back in the fruits & fiber has helped). good luck!

I understand. I'm just on day 2, but it sounds like you could use some more roughage besides the greens. Maybe broccoli or asparagus, since those are pretty bulky. If that doesn't work, what you're doing should work.

metamucil now makes a pill form, too. It is much more portable and discreet. And the thought of drinking the stuff doesn't appeal to me. I just started having trouble in the last day or so, so today is my first day really using it. I've been taking a single pill before meals with a big glass of water. I think the full dosage is more like two pills. I don't have the package here with me, just a little baggie of them in my desk drawer.

Also make sure that you are drinking TONS of water. That will help things from getting too dried out. (At work I feel like I am going to the bathroom every hour to hour-and-a-half, and my pee is very light colored.)

Try adding spinach and olive oil! I started making my chicken salads with baby spinach leaves (and that being the only "lettuce" in the salad) and sauteing veggies in olive oil. Olive oil is a natural stimulant, and I've been on Phase 1 for a little over 2 weeks (I cheated, so I"m going an extra week) and I no longer have problems in that area.

By day four I was in serious pain, I had to take the day off work and didnt know what was going on. It was a little bit constipation and gas. But it got better as the diet went on.

There are also chewable fiber pills that are pretty good too.

Hi again -

I bought the Metamucil capsules. The directions say an adult should take 1-6. I took 4 before breakfast and 4 before lunch. No adverse effects yet. If so, I will keep you posted.

Hey all,

I hope you feel better soon. When I started SBD, I didn't poop for five days!!! I was taking 4 Fiber One tablets per day (still my preferred fiber supplement), and finally I gave in and bought Dulcolax. It worked, and I wasn't on the toilet for hours or anything. Since then I've only had to use it once.

Once I got into the swing of things and especially when I got to P2, I have become more regular than I was before starting SBD.

Hope that helps!

My poor dh is experiencing some constipation too. He just told me today he hasn't gone in 3 days and is really uncomfortable. I went out and bought him some metemucil capsules and hope they help him out. I was worried I was getting a little constipated yesterday but I had like 4-5 servings of cheese! It's just so convient to grap a string cheese and go! But I cut back today and things are moving fine! ( :

I'll mention to him to maybe have some veggies with breakfast, he already drinks tons and tons of water!

Thanks for the info!
