Hi all I'm new to the board and have decided to try the sbd starting tommorrow. I just want to get something straight so that I don't mess up the phase one of this plan. I have a carb reduced protein powder that I generally mix with skim milk after my workouts..is this ok to drink during this phase? It says that there is 3grams of carbs per serving of the powder, and like I said, I drink it with a cup of skim milk. Is this ok? Thanks suzanne

Hi Suzanne,

Here's an excerpt from a recent chat with the South Beach nutritionist:

Member Question: I'm going on day 6 in Phase 1... getting tired of eggs. May I substitute once in a while with a low carb-high protein shake sweetened with Splenda?

Sandy: Eggs are only a suggestion. There are a number of other good breakfast choices. There is a great Daily Dish about that, it's located in the Daily Dish archives. It is called Non-traditional breakfast alternatives. The low carb-high protein shake sweetened with splenda would not be the best choice. Many of these products contain ingredients that are not SBD-friendly. The use of whole foods is the basis of the plan. Whole foods offer the nutritional benefits that shakes or bars cannot.
