Hello!
Another newbie here... after hearing of Maggie's success, as well as others over on some of the other boards I generally hang out on, I went ahead and decided to give the SBD a try. I happen to be 10-15 pounds overweight... which doesn't sound like much until you learn that I'm really short and that 10 pounds is nearly 10% of my body weight. I'd be happy to drop 5 pounds in Phase 1!
So, the book got here on Saturday, I finally went grocery shopping yesterday, and started with dinner last night. I'm kind of surprised that so far I like the recipes in the book and they were made with inexpensive, easy to find ingredients. I am really wishing for rice at the moment, as I'm of Japanese decent and seldom skip a scoop of rice with dinner! I've also found I need to increase the portions a little or go with the Metamucil before meals tip, since I work out daily. So I was starving this afternoon because I didn't make my salad big enough!
I am kind of tired of drinking water all day, though. Can I drink Crystal Light?

Welcome to the beach! It sounds like you are doing great! Today is my last day of phase 1! I'm so excited to move onto phase 2, especially since i only have about 5 more pounds to lose!
Anyways about your question, Crystal Lite and Diet Soda are both ok on SBD, just don't over do it, you still need to keep up your water, our rule of thumb here (dh and I are both on SBD) is we usually only have it with a meal, i.e., lunch & dinner and maybe one snack the rest of the time it's all water!
Good luck!

Hi Mandy,
Welcome!
Thanks, you two!

Welcome to SBD! Lucky for you, apples are allowed (in moderation, of course) in Phase 2. So hang in there for a bit more, and you can have one!
I know rice is difficult. I am partial to Japanese rice :) But perhaps when you are in Phase 3 you can have brown rice on occasion. Just watch out for bad effects (bloating, gas) that some people have experienced.
Sugar-Free Jell-O is an excellent way to get your sweet/fruit cravings under control. Sugar-Free Popsicles are also awesome, as is making (unsweetened) Kool-Aid with Splenda (buy Splenda for baking, not packets). I make it all the time, and it is a good way to get your water intake. And don't forget your green tea! It is great with a Splenda packet. Yum.
Well, good luck, and be sure to keep us posted on your progress. We are always here if you have questions!!!
Take care,
Becca

Hi Mandy, it's great to see you over here!!
I too am in the short side (5'0") and weight really shows! It can be 5 pounds, and it is very noticable! What is your goal weight and how tall are you?
I know phase one can be difficult at times, but it's only two weeks, I know you can pull through. Cutting out the rice, and juice could do you a world of good, you may be surprised.
On a side note though, because you don't have a lot of weight to lose, don't expect it to fly off in phase one, if it does, then awesome... but if you're anything like me, you'll start to notice the big drop in phase 2.
Here is my SBD journey in short...
August 2003 I started SBD, I had about 25 pounds to lose (I had previously done a low cal diet and stalled). I lost about 3 pounds on phase one. I moved to phase two and within about 2 months, most all my weight was off. I went from a size 10 to a 2. I was very happy with my success and went to phase 3.
I took a second job a few nonths back and really slacked off on my eating plan, and gained four pounds back. So I'm back again and doing phase one breakfasts, snacks, and dinners, and phase two lunches. It's all about willpower and planning baby! =)
I truly believe this way of life is the best, when I am strict with my SBD foods, I feel GREAT! I know I'm eating healthy and that my body will naturally take itself to it's ideal weight.
Anyhow... that's my story. I wish you the best in everything you do!
