Vegetarian not doing too well

I wanted to loose about 40 pounds and get my cholesteral under control, I decided on South Beach because I could not eat anything on Atkins as as vegetarian. I am in Phase 1, and started to see some small results, but as of day 8, I am feeling bloated, and I put on the few pounds I lost. I have avoided all the bad foods (did not cheat). However, I had to substitute tofu and soy substitutes for the meat/fish, but they were all low fat and low carb. I also ate beans. I increased my exercise routine too, so I am not sure what is going on. I am not sure if this diet will work for me afterall. Guess I need some advice. Thanks

Hi,

I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm on day 11 and feeling bloated just like you. I'm not losing much and I feel bloated all the time and I am eating all of the right foods too. So it is probably not because you're a vegetarian. I posted below and was advised to try Metamucil 15 minutes before each meal. It's worth a try. Good luck and don't give up yet. How do you feel otherwise? I feel great other than that.

I am a vegetarian also, and I am having the same problem. I lost weight the first week and when I weighed after the 2nd week I had gained back half of it. I think this diet is much harder for vegetarians. My husband eats meat and is on it also and he has so many more options and is losing weight much faster. I wish I could eat meat (but have been a veg for 30 years) and the thought of eating it really makes my stomach sick, I don't think I could do it. I am getting so tired of tofu, I really have never liked it that much but am forcing myself to eat it. I would love to hear other vegetarians experiences, hopefully some vegetarians have been successful on this!

Hang in there, I think the bloating will go away, and you might be rewarded with a nice lost (whoosh fairy we call it).

hi,

I will be starting the diet tomorrow and am a vegetarian. I am in a similar situation as you in the sense, I have about 40lbs to lose too. I am an asian indian and love cooking. I will be posting some vegetarian recipes soon. I wish you the very best. Hang in there and stay the course.
