Ph #1 since Mon and no weight loss
| Sat, 05-01-2004 - 2:06pm |
I'm posting this again, since I didn't see it show up after the first time, if this winds up being a duplicate I apologize.
I started Phase 1 on Monday I totally cut out sugar (fruit juice for breakfast, with ceral) no sugars (no sodas, no candy etc) and started eating salads only for lunch, and dinners within the books guidelines. I have not used the recipes at all.
I weighed myself today, and I have not lost 1 pound... nothing.. is it possible that I was already in phase 1 before, and now I should move on to phase two??
I've always been able to eat anything and everything and maintained my weight, I just want to drop down 10-15 pounds, lose a few inches in my waist and just look healthier.
Any help you could provided would be VERY greatly appreciated
Thanks

Welcome to the board!
Susan :)
My normal breakfast this last week has been 2 eggs as an omlet, scrambled (only water was used, no milk) with green bell peppers, onions and low fat ham along with some tomatoes. I had fried eggs on Thurs. I don't think all of the veggies equaled less then 1/2 a cup at all, maybe a little over (love tomatoes). With my breakfast I would drink a full glass of water 8-10oz.
For lunch I was getting McDonalds/Subway salads with grilled chicken (not fried), and would drink a liter of water with the salad each time.
Now according to your post, eplanation #1 sounds about right. I already have a low amount of carb intake before I tried the SBD. But I have cut out them completely as well as ALL suger (chocolate while watching tv especially), and I never was big on sodas (unless I got a combo meal at some fast food restaurant)
#3 possible huh ???
#4 NOT possible unless man can go through this :)
I hope this can help you help me and see if I'm headed in the right direction. I don't want to give up yet, but I guess I expected to see more results after the first week.
Thanks :)
If you have been eating a low or reduced carb diet before coming to the beach then you might want to consider moving onto phase 2... the new foods might shake up your metabolism a bit (and be much more enjoyable too).
Susan :)
WOW... talk about a quick response... I love it...
I'm glad you said I could move on to 2 cuz this one is BORING LOL (just kidding)...
Beans are good.. I LOVE beans... I'm actaully wanting to get to the fruit most of all. I used to eat strawberries and blueberries all the time before I started (along with peachs and apples) this diet. Never was big on bananas. :(
As far as my weight, I started at 191, currently I'm at 186, and my goal is 175, not alot of weight to lose, but I'm hoping it all comes from those pesky LOVE HANDLES we men tend to get as we get older.
Exercise is a good idea... got an eliptical machine I could use daily... what's a good recommended amount of time on it 10-15 min or more??
Try to get 20 minutes of exercise a day minimum.
Susan :)
Ooops, I meant to post this for you:
Carb's competitors
(Published 8/6/03) On the South Beach Diet
, anything you eat that slows the digestion of sugars in carbs is, by definition, good. Slowing down digestion of carbs results in your body producing less insulin. Less insulin means a less dramatic drop in blood sugar. A diminished rise and fall of sugar means less hunger later. Here are three important food components that will slow down digestion.
1. Fiber. Fiber is the major factor that slows the absorption of sugar. That's why highly processed oatmeal, for example, is worse, diet-wise, than the steel-cut variety. The latter has all the fiber still intact, and before the stomach can get to the sugars in the oatmeal, it has to separate them from the fiber. Once isolated, the fiber passes undigested through your system; its dietary importance comes from its ability to slow digestion down. It is an obstacle to digestion--a good one.
2. Fat. Fat, too, slows the speed at which your small intestine accesses the sugars you've eaten. That's why it's better to have a little olive oil or some low-fat cheese on your bread than it is to eat the bread alone. For the same reason, having a baked potato topped with low-fat sour cream is better than eating it plain. The calorie count might be higher, but the fat contained in the sour cream will slow down the digestive process, thereby lessening the amount of insulin that the potato prompts your body to make.
3. Acid. Acidic foods, such as lemon and vinegar, also slow the digestive process, therefore cutting back on the rise in blood sugar. You can dress salads or vegetables in both and enjoy the benefit. Even sourdough bread will slow digestion because, although it is not high in fiber, it is acidic.

keep trying, it will start melting away...
When I was faced with the icky options for each day of the first 14 days, I picked recipies from phase one, but not necessarily in the order he recommended. It has been working so far, 10 lbs in 6 days..... I feel like I am eating all the time, but apparently that is ok!
GOOD LUCK! :)
Don't forget you don't have to follow the recipes in the book, or the menus.
Susan :)
Total... started at 191, and I actually saw 181 on Saturday morning, but it's back up to 184 as of today so I lost between 7-10 #'s in two weeks.
Now it's funny getting used to having something different for breakfast instead of just eggs.. Today the Mrs, was nice enough to get up and fix us some oatmeal (not instant) with cinnamon, not as good as the instant stuff but I ate it...
On to Phase II :)
